Firefox doesn't come with Windows, therefore, your "simple solution" is not very simple.
I think it might still be possible though. I think there is a way to download stuff through the command line.

mine works perfectly

thats not funny

In my knowledge and experience, Mozilla Firefox is the best option to go for. It is way better than bloody Internet Explorer, less risk to viruses (unless you are actually downloading one, in which case it would be necessary to have an Antivirus software) and overall it is way better.

Did you even read his problem? he installed IE8-B2 and it didn't work, so he system restored to before the install(which probably made things worse.) So he has no web browser to even download Firefox.

Do you know anyone who can lend you a hand and download Firefox onto a CD or USB drive for you? Or do you live by yourself in the middle of nowhere?

No internet =/= end of world

And never use System Restore, it screws everything up. Backup all your shit and reformat your hard drive.

True. Didn't think about that actually. But if you have another computer in your house, and either a blank CD or a thumb-drive. You can download it on that computer and then either burn it to copy the install file to the thumb drive.

EDIT: Looks like someone already mentioned it.

did you download the ie8 if so try reinstalling it to see if you can get the problem rectified or a repair of ie8 through add and remove (if you can)
if you have the windows disc doesn't internet explorer come on that so you could try a reinstall/repair that way

These are probably the best and easiest two options.

If you can get your hands on firefox somehow, get that. : p Probably much more annoying try to fix IE.

control panel/add remove programs /add remove windows components / remove the tick next to internet explorer (you may need your windows disk in to do this) then hit NEXT when its finished removing IE repeat the process and put a TICK back in the box and hit NEXT to reinstall IE

I just had to pop in to say system restore is fine, it doesn't damage anything.

I use it often and never had problems.

Try going to add/remove programs and looking for a repair option. It could also be in the Tools menu of the internet explorer, if you can actually open it. If not, you will need to use a usb drive or other removable media with the install file for another browser temporarily until you can download another internet explorer setup file to try and repair the current one.
