so. was just wondering what they could use the infrared for, when it hit me that they could come out with an app thats a universal remote...i would totally buy this as i can never find the remote but could find my 3ds with my eyes closed.

That app is possible. However, you know, the chances of it are very unlikely.

I'd never use it properly, but it would be fun to be 'playing' on my 3DS when in fact i keep changing the channel my brother is trying to watch [IMG]

Though saying that I tried a similar thing a long time ago with either my P900 or P910i but IR com ports were not designed for that sort of range so it didn't really work.

I should try with my N900 and see if a newer phone is any good at it.

If the eshop becomes closer to the appstores on android and icrap, then it will happen.
If the SDK is too expensive, no it won't.

Lol that's the first useful thing I see for the infrared. Ever since the 3DS came out I've been wondering what the hell that infrared port is even good for that can't be done better with wifi.
If that app happened I'd probably use it because my TV's remote is awful XD

It also depends on how powerful the ir is, if it's just as weak as the gameboy's ir than there is no way for a remote to be made if it's a lot stronger it may work.

Possible, but not likely in the near future.

It's for accessories... Think Guitar hero's grip for regular DS, or possibly for a 3rd party rumble...

Basically, a lot of developers were upset that the DSi lacks any means to hook up any sort of gadget to so Nintendo did this instead of making a single connector as in previous portable hardware. You wouldn't want to use wifi for an accessory simply because it's a lot more expensive to make (wifi chips cost a lot more than IR sensors) and a lot more expensive to use (battery power).
