Well the official release of atmosphere (v0.7) is barebone. You won't load any backups with it (yet). Personally, I'm only excited because this means they're 1 step closer to implementing (real) emunand. I'm specifically waiting for that feature so I can further protect my fuses. One can never be too careful.

Yup, I have been sitting on a virgin OS 2.0 switch.. waiting lol

I'm on v5.1 rn but I only have 1 burnt fuse and I'm telling you I've been extra careful not to accidentally boot stock firmware but the paranoia is killing me.

Peoples are disappointed because it doesn’t have any of the piracy they wanted? The dev are against piracy, offical support will never be a thing

Tell me what the xci loader will do beside Piracy.

"Preserve" full games (in this era there is not such a thing as complete game with all the dlc and updates) that includes updates and dlc... in a very convenient format....

Remember those days when you had to get an ISO or rom and not to hunt down for updates? Yeah XCI could save and preserve games... if we first find a way to do that xD

I’m asking about the loader, not the format. Currently nothing on the Switch use XCI beside piracy.

Not trying to argue but some people are really not seeing the actual point of atmosphere. Now I don’t know much but I do know that this is basically laying out the base for devs to create better things for the end user. You seriously just have to be patient. Yes, we know it took wayyyy longer to get an actual official release, but in my opinion it’s still worth the wait.

Atmosphere, compared to other CFWs (SX, ReiNX etc) is a whole rewrite/custom implementation of Ninty's OS - not a collection of patches like current CFW. That's the takeaway from this.

Instead of intercepting and patching out syscalls etc - we can outright remove those syscalls or outright modify them (remove telemetry while keeping functionality etc). This is also why it took so long. It's easier to patch existing firmware, but much harder to RE it and rewrite it completely. It's a huge step forward for CFW. Many won't notice it because current CFW has features they want, but under the hood - this is something which could lead to a full/true CFW.

Sitting on a 2.2 fw switch right now. I do have SX, but only used it to edit my Zelda save.

Will we be able to rip actual carts and install on the emunand?

Thank you and that’s what some people are failing to realize. Like yes keep using ReiNX or SXOS all you want it’s nothing wrong with that. I just can’t wait until this fully develops into something that will benefit the community.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

So what does this do that the current cfw's can't provide?
This is more of a release for devs atm, but in the future, once the devs have had a chance to create things, it’ll be able to do what ReiNX and SXOS does plus more.
