Yes, I've done it before with Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games, and Pokemon Soulsilver (Traded with my friend, he was using a legit game card of HeartGold, I was using TWLMenu)

Local multiplayer can be played using TWLMenu++, but I don't know if it's possible using TWLMenu++ and an original cartridge.

I'll back up my NSMB cartridge and confirm
