I just saw the upgrade and was happy .
I was TOO happy...
When I got the exploit open My first step was to download emunand
I first went to setting and saw the gw mark in front of the firmware and went back to home screen by mistake
and then went back in to settings didn't check the upper screen and just updated...
and yes... I upgraded the sysnand....

Sad but that's how it goes, we've known quitting settings returns to sysNAND from the start.
Have you got a sysNAND backup though?

Well if you have Nand backup you can still downgrade ,and even if you don't you can still buy a sky3ds.

Well maybe, if you can get someone to hard mod your 3ds. If you can find someone with a soldering iron you can mod it and restore your original sysNAND.

If you had followed the guide to updating emunand, you were not suppose to leave the settings menu AFTER VERIFYING GW FIRMWARE. You were suppose to immediately update right then and there.

Of course. If you backed up your sysNAND you can try to find someone to hardmod your 3DS and flash it back.

Already covered that point. We're up to the advice stage now.
Thanks for your helpful, constructive input. And for taking the time to read the whole thread (all 1 pages of it) lol.

This is another reason why GW shouldn't always BE THE PREFERRED "GO TO" CARD. To some it can be confusing, to others its a simple task of creating emunand, updating emunand and continue booting into GW mode. Not everyone sees it that way even if they wanted to, certain steps are not taken or skipped and accidents happen.

I own a GW card btw so I'm not flaming.

Argh! That sucks :(
Sorry about that...

So no NAND backup anyway?

WoW why why the hell did you do that? In Gateways instructions and in countless threads it explicitly states that a software reboot will take you out of emunand and gateway mode. Maxconsole is the official support forum. This is where you look for detailed tutorial.

Yah the do have the backup file, all they need to do is solder 4 wires on the board and use the right kit to flash it back. Part of me wishes I had one I needed to mod to get back... But I'm not going to do that to a console that doesn't need it yet lol.

I know... i repeatedly read the instructions and I made a foolish mostake... the funny thing is I succeeded on my brother's 3ds and did this on mine..
At least I already had plans for a n3ds jap next month. hope they are stull on the 9.0-9.2 formware~

Yeah you shouldn't have a problem finding a Japanese N3DS within the appropriate firmware range. Just trade in or sell your old updated one to make some money back towards the N3DS.

I made the same mistake with my son's 3DS. Thankfully I have a backup of both 9.2 and 4.2 SysNAND. I sent it out to have the NAND mod done as well as a restore to 4.2. A mistake that has already cost me $70 between mod, shipping and insurance. It sucks... but at least I know I'll be able to restore his NAND at any point in the future. So its worth it.

im sorry that it happened that, but if you can make the hardmod you can use the old 3ds and the new 3ds with gateway, even if ppl suggest sky3ds its cheaper to do the hard mod and you have a bullet proof vest on the 3ds to updates, you could even update and downgrade at will,
