My reason for needing to buy one is this

As the title says what would be the best course of action to get a switch with cfw?

I would try contacting the reseller and see if they're willing to divulge the serial number. I haven't heard of any success or failure but you've got nothing to lose for asking in advance.

I personally use a paperclip which I then used to install AutoRCM because I'm a dirty cheapskate but if you don't like AutoRCM, I would try and find a good jig dealer. Unfortunately I don't know of any and some only ship to certain regions of the world but most of them can be located on eBay. You also need a USB-C cable to send payloads with. The one that comes with the Pro controller is the best but as long as it supports USB-C, you're good to go.

Have purchased a few switches through Amazon. If the purchase is through Amazon and not a private seller they actually give you the serial number under your orders transaction tab when it ships out. Its actually part of there policy that they record the serial number and post it to you for fraud prevention on there behalf. Youll know right away if your shipping it back to them in 2 days or not .

I'd focus on quickly finding a non patched switch, they are disappearing I know some ppl sell new ones on the correct firmware around the same price as a retail one (at least they used to) but I'd try GameStop(just show them what serial numbers your looking for, if you get a assholes, go to another GameStop), Walmart, and target, depending on where you live, it may be very hard to find one in store.

That sounds like a pain, id rather as a non Amazon seller for the serial, then you have a Amazon message to show anazon if they lie.

I think the best course of action from what im being told right now is to just buy a switch with a low firmware from ebay thats atleast 300$ or under.300$ isnt too bad but i guess patched ones that are used go for less. Also what sized micro sd card should i get for it if i want to run backups?

Id say minimum 64 gb (mines full and I'm picky) but you can get whatever size you want, 128 would probably be good.

Stores might very well have one.

Question. I bought a preowned switch at gamestop at a low serial number. Can I test if it's not been banned without updating?

well shit can u can connect to the internet to nintendos services? that right there should answer your question. As of late all bans are super bans and updating fw and anything else isnt even a option anymore if its uber banned.Though to stay one step ahead i would use choidujournx and update it offline with auto rcm. Sounds like your gonna do some grimy shit anyways just backup your nand first and go ham.

Okay, I just wanted to know if I should look first. I can go to recovery mode and delete the update data if I do a check, right? It sounds like I should stay on 5.1.0 I can't RCM yet as I'm waiting on my jig. I wanted to see if my switch was good to backup nand first or if I needed to exchange it first.

If you can get in to rcm then bootload hekate your on the right path. You said it was a lower serial ?whats the number? depending on what the number is you should be golden pretty much. If your impatient and want to know now find a conductive object (like a paper clip) and apply it to the 1st and 10th rail pins on the right side of the switch unit or alternatively use tinfoil (lol) to short the 9th and 10th pins on the side rail though it takes patience and if you fuck up and not are careful thats it no second chances (stay away from pin 4!) you have to just be meticulous and careful ,really not that hard if you apply patience but if your scared and nervous about these things just wait for the jig i cant always assume people are confident to do this things so just take your time is all i can say generally speaking if you do decide to do it now.

It'x an XAW1003 number, so it's definitely low enough. I'm terrible with my hands and can't get the paper clip or tin foil thing to work, so I'll wait. So there's no way to check if it's clean without updating?

well to safe guard you from down grading youll have to mod it and might expose you to a ban possibly if you do it legit you'll know for sure but youll burn your fuses and cant go back to 5.1 it really depends on if you care or not ,you and everyone else at some point ,will have to go to 6.0 at some time or another to benefit from playing newer games with new keys once they leak but for now its safer to stay on 5.1 because its still early in the game for 6.0 fw and theres really no games or benifit that require 6.0 fw right now
