ROM Hack I'm making a FFIV translation patch...

this is kinda what ive been wanting, i could care less about the story as i can just read it, like i have already. Anyways i feel like im fighting battles blind, ive memorized some spells etc.. but this game seriously moves at a fast pace. it be nice to have the menus and commands translated,

good luck

Thanks for all the support. I've got most of the main menu translated, I'll be working on the battle menus next. I'll try to find a way to post some screenshots later tommorow night. For now I've got to get some sleep. Gotta get to work for another 8hr shift tommorow.

This sounds great and by the way MSN isn't much different from AIM if you use a 3rd party program like Trillian.

Anyways I can't wait to see the menu translation that alone will make it playable mostly.

Someone should translate the items also. I can't tell which item does what so I end up using a Phoenix Down when it's not necessary.

Infact someone is already working on that. This project has gone from solo to a two man team. Jeatin is currently translating the item names. Also, here's a screencap of the main menu.

While the principle behind the idea is great, I see no real point in translating this, dues to the fact that it will have a European or American release before long.
Either way, great job on starting a project like this, don't let me hinder you.

From the sounds of this they'll get a menu and item translation in a couple of weeks for those that don't want to wait the 9-12 months it seems SE takes to do any localisation.

Wow, looks great on that screenshot! And that was so quick!!!

And if all goes well, hopefully you'll have someone work on the dialogues as well...?

That'd be great!

Anyway, good luck and thank you! Can't wait to play in English!

If you wanted to even do the story, I bet it wouldn't be hard. the entire games script is already translated in the GBA version.
I was under the impression from the interviews with S-E that unlike FFIII's remake this game featured a re-written and much extended script. Of course this has nothing to do with translating menus/items. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

That looks great. I, for one, am very excited by this. I'm playing it right now and having some difficulty with items and spell names especially. I can make it through the main menu okay, but having battle menus, items, and spells would be incredible.

And yes, I think there is quite a bit of value to doing this months and months before the localizations. Thank you for your efforts.

You're totally right. The trailers even shown some scenes that weren't in the original, so you can bet there's plenty of new text in there.

Either way it wouldn't require a simple 'copy/replace' procedure, depending on how the game is coded replacing the text bank also sometimes mean that the text has to fit in the same amount of letters/characters. Menus and items are usually easy to translate as they aren't fetched from a 'text bank', but rather hard coded to appear as such. As you can see in the screenshot, 'magic' is reduced to 'mage' probably for that reason.

Already having the items/spells and such translated would probably help people get through the game from memory, to enjoy the japanese voices, until we get an official US release.

I'm suspecting an announcement at E3 this year.

Anything you can add to the wiki to make it more complete or improve it is fine... doesn't necessarily need the Japanese text.
