Hacking I'm confused on how you update the cheat database

I don't quite understand how to update the cheats. I had a R4 and I just replaced the cheat file, but what do I do exacly in the cyclo?

put it in the CycloDS folder
or
ifyou have Wif
use

and run the DS app the d/l the DB right from the DS
