The games will run off an HDD without fail and with faster loading times. You can use a PC to dump your games provided you have a compatible DVD drive.
How can you tell if the lens is broken?
By putting in a genuine disc and having a hard time reading it (or failing to read it at all)?
To be honest, I recommend UBS reading regardless of the state of the laser simply because I'm a collector and the laser lens and assembly are prone to failure over time while the USB port will never fail you - it's simply the superior method of loading which is easier on the hardware and allows you to preserve the system for longer.
Could I watch films on an HDD if it has games on it too?
I get that a lot and the loading times are really sluggish do I figured the lens is weak.So failing to read it would include "cannot read disc; look at the Operations Manual" message then, huh.
The Wii keeps on giving!Yes, you can use an app like WiiMC to play videos off an HDD even if it has games on it too.
