Hacking I want my 3dTV

I really want that Japan TV.

I mean, I watch NHK World Premium a lot... not for those shows but to try an improve my Japanese skills.

What the... I am actually more eager to master Japanese than my own mother tongue (chinese).

That's exactly what I was thinking. I just hope that Netflix will eventually support 3d.

Yes, it wouldn't be too hard to modify the movies to run on a 3DS, just reducing the sound quality, and re-scaling the image would probably do the trick.

Yes, it wouldn't be too hard to modify the movies to run on a 3DS, just reducing the sound quality, and re-scaling the image would probably do the trick.

And scaling is already built in to netflix streaming - it does it automatically based on your bandwidth.

there is barely any to make all the 3d movies 3ds compatible, its not cost effective in another words and they would rather satisfy the bigger market of 3d movies

Joe88: Err.... I can't tell if you're a troll, or just know nothing about video encoding... 3D blu-rays are already in a full 3d format, and converting them to 3DS format wouldn't be any more technically demanding then converting regular blu-rays to 3ds format.

It would require more processing time (as you'd, in essence, be transcoding 2 video signals per video) but movies are only a couple hours long and there really aren't that many 3d movies released each year versus standard movies. Netflix already has a nice server farm rented out for doing regular video transcodes and there is likely a lot of idle time that they pay for anyways.

It would really all be about the specifics... How much would the licensing be for 3d content versus regular content? How much (potentially) extra would they have to charge for 3d service? etc etc.

thats the problem, there nothing readily available for the 3DS, its not premade like it is for 3d blu-ray where all they have to do it stream it to consumers

well about a 1 year ago, the number of 3dtv's sold was about 300,000 units (I cant really find any newer figures but lets presume around 400,000 now)
the 3ds has sold about 80,000

which market do you target if your running a business?
this would be a different story if the 3ds sales were better then they are right now
but really this is all null since netflix has no plans for 3d for anything

Not even close.
As of March 31, the 3DS has sold 3.61 million units. It's probably much more by now.

The 3DS has sold way over 80.000 units. I think alone in japan it sold over 350.000 in the first 2 days after launch. YAY
