As of late the internet has been flooded with vibe coded slop, and it's starting to reach the DS too, sadly.
So let's create thoughtful, human-engineered ports of our favorite games to Nintendo DS!
It's a fun little hardware beast, packing in all of the original GBA features, and maxxing the heck out of it with new tricks of its own :)

I have a very good port of Smash 64 to the DS running (no, the public port was not consulted, this is a separate project) and it runs quite well, hitting a beautiful 60fps in 3p battle, and still getting it tuned properly and hand-tailored for the DS. New features planned. Prerelease patcher available on the discord, below.

What's crazier though, is a working Grand Theft Auto III port is also running quite well! It uses all of the classic optimization tricks and more. Footage below.

So I have a fun new discord server set up, where people can join, develop, and learn how to create DS ports, so we can share what we've learned and limit the "AI slop" that might appear in its place. Core new libraries for facilitating ports is strictly no-AI, but each port's AI involvement is slightly at the discretion of the lead dev of each port. Play by some simple rules, get access to using central tooling and help from others in this small community.

Excited to see where this takes us, and for pushing the DS to its limits! :toot:
