why can't a person love someone without first loving itself?

there are people that really care about others, do everything for others help, give everything to others etc etc... however they don't really care about themselves. low self esteem etc..

If you don't love yourself than why should someone else love you? If you don't love yourself you don't know yourself, and neither do they. These one-sided relationships where people only give to make them happy always end in failure for a reason. You can't live by extension of someone else, at that point it isn't love but simply dependence. If without love you aren't mentally sound then the solution isn't to find love in others but to find love in yourself.

TL;DR Think of yourself before others, finding love in yourself is the first step to finding love in others. I worded that terribly keep in mind I'm not some fucking teen magazine and its 4am
