I have probably played this game more out of anything since 2024. I go through phases of Sonic 06 nostalgia, and there's been both mods for the 360 port to test on Xenia, the ChaosX fan-remake "Project 06" which is nice, and there's a PC Recompilation available that makes it playable at 240fps.

The thing is, I don't even dislike the game anymore, and I genuinely see it as a pretty good game (with some lame parts in it), and I really think it just came out at a bad time when it was easily dwarfed by other Next Gen experiences on Xbox 360 and PS3, because if not for that there's something incredibly unique and cool about the game, and I just love the whole "It's a realistic looking setting but now Sonic & Co are jumping around in it" and I wish gaming had more of that. Especially because it has such a Gamer energy to it. It reminds me of the 3D Ninja Gaidens in that sense, where there's just so much ambition that it feels like the devs momentarily forgot they were making a game with Sonic in it.

Had no clue there was a recomp of it out there. That being said I was never satisfied with Project 06 because it's fundamentally a different game. I'll try out the recomp when it's completed.

you got Project 06 working on those instead of merely on PC? Cool beans!

Where's the link to patch P-06 to work on Xenia, Xbox 360 and PS3? Share it here!

I genuinely respect your love for this game and there are definitely things to enjoy about it, however the time it came out in while it is a factor as to why it's perceived the way it is and it turned out the way it did, is not for the reason you stated, it's entirely on SEGA for rushing the game for sonic's anniversary
and yuji naka leaving the team in the middle of development for the sake of assisting the development of nights journey into dreams, they were also working
on sonic and the secret rings as well as sonic the hedgehog genesis (GBA).

There is a reason sega is hesitant to acknowledge it consistently and even make posts joking about how bad it is,
again i respect your opinion but this is important to note when defending this game.

I was also surprised to find out that a recomp had been done of Sonic '06. It's possible I just plain forgot it existed- I guess it's been around since last year-, but I thought the only 360-era Sonic game that had a recomp was Sonic Unleashed. Either way, it has my attention.

I've never played Sonic '06 myself, but I'm always amazed by how much attention it gets. If I ever have the time, I should try it out myself.

Honestly I do think Sonic '06 is nowhere near as bad as people claim it to be, however in my opinion it's definitely far fetched to call it a "good game".
I think it had a lot of potential to be something great but unfortunately the devs never got to properly see it through.
I very recently replayed it and overall did enjoy it (I do wonder how much of that enjoyment came from nostalgia though).

As a kid I never actually managed to get to the final episode as I got stuck with Silver in Soleana Forest and could not for the life of me figure out how to get over that fucking pond or whatever you'd call it; I was extremely disappointed in the final boss, all the build to it made it sound like it's gonna be something grand -- I really expected it to be a thing of you going through the past present and future, traversing through the levels and fighting the boss in movement.
But nope, just a floating thingy that you gotta smack a couple times.

Also kinda wild that Elise just kisses Sonic and cucks Amy right in front of her eyes.

The game is fun purely because of how broken it is, that's an achievement by itself I would say.

Do I think it is a good game? Well, no.
Is it fun to play and mess around with glitches? Absolutely.
I would argue that although the jank is for sure a part of the fun, there are a handful of moments that are genuinely fun and good.

If the entire game was as polished as the demo, I'd call it a good game. I really liked the demo. The game is just plagued with so many issues that make it difficult to play.

There is also some banging music so that works for me!
Holy shit don't even get me started, sonic 06 and adventure have some of my all time favorite video game music.

No I idea what you're talking about, it only took me 20 tries to get past the ring trail that takes you to the first level. Seems perfectly functional to me.
