Hello everyone,

today I found my old Nintendo DS Lite and some games. Also I found my old DS Linker N-card (I guess its called this way?) where some games where saved on.
The games on it seemed a little buggy and I wanted to kind of reset the card. Seems like I did a mistake when I formatted the DS Linker by Pc/windows. :( (I saved the stuff that was on it).

When I turn on the DS and start the DS Linker, a white screen appears. It says "Loading menu... error: not format!". So I tried to download some xmenu files (there are different versions), put it on the linker and tried the "L + G + A + B + down" stuff but nothing works. I found a website with many links to download different versions of firmware but I am not allow to post this link here.

What can I do to get this ds linker running again? I would be grateful if someone could help me! <3

For the most part you will probably be told to get a better flash cart and use this as the opportunity for that -- the n-card was never great, and stopped getting updates quite some time before even a lot of others stopped. You can probably push it a little bit further with some of the more modern anti piracy patches ( https://gbatemp.net/download/retrogamefan-nds-rom-tool-v1-0_b1215.35735/ https://gbatemp.net/threads/retrogamefan-updates-releases.267243/ )

Downloads are available in the downloads section here

Don't know if they were the last versions released (again it was never a popular/good card that people cared about, mostly just a cheap one) but would presumably be the later ones. I don't think it ever got support in something like wood or ysmenu (various replacement firmwares some cheaper flash carts got access to, the former being one of the better menus/supported things of anything) but I have been surprised before.

@FAST6191 Thank you for thefast answer!

I would like to just fix my n-card, even though it might be easier to just buy a new, better one. I just don't want to spend money if I can fix this somehow.

So I looked though all the links you send and it seems quite complicated to me. On linFox Domain are many flashcard soft- and firmware that can be downloaded, even for the DS Linker. So I'm wondering what I have to download and put on the card that it is working again. Most of the stuff I see are patches, but I think this is not what I need yet (?). Btw I always read there is a DS Linker and Ds Linker writer (in readme files)? So I guess one of it is the gba modul? I only have the normal ds card, it won't work then right? At that time my stepfather did that and I can't ask him anymore so idk >.< ...

Thank you so much :)

@SylverReZ, I dislike the kind of drm where you have to play single player games online all the time bc of some verification bs

@SylverReZ, I also heard one of the Prince of Persia games was so unfinished that it required the "24/7 online" drm so a puzzle could be done and the game could be finished. And that when the Ubisoft servers were closed the (cracked) game was impossible to finish or something like that
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Xdqwerty, That's extra scummy. Ubisoft nowadays ship out incomplete games like Skull and Bones which was being worked on for nearly a decade now.

Either that or their old games were unfinished aswell but we can't notice it

I like that games can be fixed after the fact, hate that it's being abused via beta tests... And DLC... I was a 7800 owner back in the day and loved Impossible Mission, turns out I couldn't beat it because it was actually impossible lol

I never knew about it at the time but a fixed version was available but you had to mail in your broken copy lol

So that version is semi rare
