Hacking I don't understand something in geckocodes.org

Yesterday, I tried to install mk wii gecko cheats with geckocodes.org, but some cheats have a note named "xyz = activator" and I don't understand what does this mean. Pls help me !

There should be X Y Z placeholders in the code and you have to replace them with a proper button activator (which button on what controller you'd like to use to trigger the code).

Thank you for your answers, but I have 2 questions :
So we must use a 3 buttons combination for every code ?
And what are the hexadecimal values for each button ?
