I haven't been keeping up with this, but I believe it was said that the 3DS XL doesn't get those scratches caused by closing the system. I now know that this is false. It is SLOWER then the original 3DS, but it still happens.

On my 3DS XL, I can see those scratches starting to form. At this point it's only visible when you're looking for them under direct light, but forming they are. And like how everything else is bigger on the 3DS XL, so shall these be. Giant trenches of annoyance on the top screen.

But as they are not visible unless looking for them, it's not too late to save my XL. For you see, a screen protector is easy and cheap to replace, not so much the system it self...

So, does anyone know where I can find 3DS XL screen protectors? Doesn't seem like anyone makes them...

Oh, and any other measures to prevent and fix this issue before it gets worse is also appriciated.

It should be on sale on local stores, if you don't live in a a small city. You can also buy it in sites like amazon and ebay.

I've got a cosmo black regular 3DS since launch and still don't have any 'scratches.' I get the straight lines on the top screen, corresponding to the edges of the bottom screen, when I don't clean it for a while, but it's just finger grease. Cleans right up, without a trace, every time.

This is the exact same here, except I've had mine since March. No scratches, just the lines that can be rubbed off. I believe it's a manufacturing defect of some sort, or different screens. My 3DS is the Ice White that came bundled with SM3DL from Amazon.

You guys are lucky. On my old 3DS, I would clean the lines every time, but the scratches still formed.

My old 3DS had those marks. It started off as smudges and I cleared them everyday, but I soon got lazy and cleaned it once a week or so. I soon noticed that the smudges could not be cleared and the scratches are extremely apparent.

So far with my 3DS LL with zero problems. Quite satisfied.

What I want to know is how Nintendo could redesign the 3DS to make it so that this doesn't happen at all. They probably could have figured it out with the XL, but I assume they didn't care enough. Anyway,

I have an original 3ds, and when I started to see the marks, I began putting a microfiber cloth between it. quickest solution I've found. and from what I can see that causes this, it's that the bottom screen's edges are raised. so when it closes, the screen makes contact with the hard plastic ridges. which causes the scratches.

It doesn't happen if you don't stuff it into your pocket, or close it hard enough to scratch it. I have bumpers on the top of the top screen to prevent this though.
It's an issue. If it doesn't happen to you, it's because you're being careful about it.

Not entirely. With my XL I don't have bumpers on it like I do with my regular 3DS, but I'll toss my XL pretty much anywhere whether it's couches, laundry on the floor, bed, backpack. I don't care, but I don't have scratches on it.

My apologies, I meant with the regular 3DS. (because some posters mentioned regular 3DS' not scratching for them.)

What do people mean when they talk about these "bumpers"?

Crappy picture, but:

If you get them too thick the 3DS won't close properly, but I have them just right and it's great. :D
No worrying about putting a cloth between the screens anymore, I can just close it.

Yeah I usually keep the piece of packaging that comes with the 3DS new between the screens on it after I'm finished playing it.

Just do what I did with my old 3DS: Take some old plastic "feet" off of a 360 or something similar, and stick em on there. It actually looks pretty good on the console, I have to admit.
