whoops
sorry

I used the No Random Encounters cheat on FF4DS when I got stuck in the world map with no potions and very low HP.

Other than that I usually only cheat for fun.

When a game has a difficult 'feature' in it that's just there to slow down the fun and serves no other purpose I'll always use a cheat if it bypasses such nonsense.

If a game has been sitting on my cart for a long while I'll turn to cheats in an effort to see how it ends. Sometimes even cheats can't 'save' a game though (Sonic TDB I'm looking in your direction).

I'm not the kind of person who considers finishing a game without cheats or on some 'hard difficulty' an achievement. I play games for fun, and will only use harder difficulty settings if they're also fun (to me) not for some sense of achievement.

I'll use RTS to get past long, penalizing sequences (i.e. fight through some long battle, miss one jump at the end, and you have to start over) in platformers, or to unlock stuff when I don't want to play the game for 100 hours (best example for me is code to unlock all monsters in godzilla PS2). I used the x2 experience cheat in etrian because it was annoying without it, and then just cheated the hell out of it to poke around more when I got bored.

I dunno...I don't have much gaming time any more, so if I get stuck in something, I may cheat rather than pound my head against it forever. I tend more toward the infinite-money cheats than the invulnerability cheats in RPGs and stuff. I find ammo management about as fun as making my character take a crap.

To be quite honest, I do it moderatly. I've noticed the more I play games nowadays, the less I cheat at it. I'll use a few examples on how I roll:

Infinite Lives? Hell yeah. It's trial and error whether the cheat is on or off, difference being that I won't see the Game Over screen way too often.

Invincible/ Inf. Health: When I was young I would use these, but now for me it's a no-no. Except Ys. God that game is hard at times.

Unlock all-Stop right there. Unless it has ridiculous standards to do so(MM9?) , I'll unlock it myself. This is the one cheat I don't really like.

Money/Experience : I'll admit I use these for RPGs, but if there's an option between 2000 exp and 2000000000 exp, I'm picking the former and turning the cheat off. Saves me a few hours of grinding without making my party invincible. Instead of 999999999(currency), I turn on a few item codes, sell them, turn off my code and go on my way without being broke.

I'll agree that it could take the fun out of the game, but it's within my means without ruining it for me. Especially single player. No cheats and an Easy mode? I'll breeze thorugh that like it's nothing and play Normal for difficulty.
Neither? Well screw it, I'll play it anyway if I still like it.

One thing I can't tolerate is online( or multiplayer) cheating. That's your ass if I ever catch you doing it.

Cheating was a childhood obsession for me. I would always cheat in pokemon, doing the infamous rare candy glitch. My dad would ask me, "doesn't that defeat the purpose of the game?" and I would always say "no, it makes it more fun." But now I see it really does defeat the purpose of the game. If I ever find myself cheating on a flash cart, I usually stop playing that game shortly after because I lose interest. It's my duty as a gamer to complete games the right way.

I always found myself cheating on the game after the first time playing the game to see what it is like with full power and stuff. Now I realize that was stupid as I never turned them off. To prevent me from cheating, I actually removed the cheats from my SD card.

I always use the unlock all cheats. Because I dont like playing games!

If you go unlock everything it is like you have played it without having to play any of it.

btw I'm lying, i cannot see the point of cheating, with the slight exception of occasionally consulting a walkthrough if I get really stuck in a game I really like. If I do not complete the hard bit without enabling a cheat, then I'd get no satisfaction from completing the game. I also hate using the walkthrough route, but some game's solutions are just too obscure.

I don't cheat all the time, Only if its just a quick game. Like for instance, Ultimate Mortal Kombat...I just use the invincibility cheat just to play around if I had a few mins to play ya know. Other than that, I'll cheat after I beat a game.//

a lot but only after I fineshed the game or on games like pokemon to fill the pokedex cus i dont want to look for outher ppl to help me get the pokemon .i like to chet on games i allredy finehed cus some chets ar fun and some are funny

i use cheats for mario kart for those unlockables and also for ninja gaiden the last boss.. it was so hard to defeat so i used the cheat unlimited Ninja power (infinite magic) it was so easy to defeat the boss that i didnt really enjoy it. sometimes i use walkthroughs to help me out if im stuck in a game and i want to defeat it so bad..

hm, that's a lot of thinking.
uhm, i haxed a few "unobtainable" legends into my pokemon save, for personal usage(not trading/wifi battling with them).
and i did testing with camera haxing for OOT style camera in LoZ PH.
and i downloaded a completed save for jus after completing the game and unlocking a large amount of characters myself.

for GBA i used an unlock all cheat on medabots AX, but that was because i'd have to trade parts to get all which doesn't work with a DS.

Tell me more, this sounds interesting. Is this a standard cheat code or?

And to answer the question, almost never. Usually I'll just consult a walkthrough if I get really, really stuck.

Depends on the gamedifficulty..
if it's easy:no cheating
if it whacks da hell outta meh : INVINCIBLE MODE FTW!!!
