Dozens? Hundreds? Thousands?

I am pretty sure that almost everyone who has a Gateway 3DS card and wound up with a brick basically HAS to be a participant of some online forum devoted to modding and hacking. That said, most of the people who got bricked are likely to post something about it somewhere. Modders tend to look out for each other.

So, what are we really talking, here? It's difficult to get an accurate estimate on the number of users affected by searching through dozens of topics on GBATemp, as I have been doing.

I feel like I am playing with a ticking time bomb, every time I turn off my 3DS.

How many reliably confirmed bricks have been reported so far?

I think it's about 6 or 7 reported cases. A big number if you consider that the 2.0b2 were released less than a month ago.

5-6 from gbatemp can't say from other forums.

I thought it was 7...

These are only the reported one's, who knows how many other people in this world who bought a Gateway got a Blue Screen and didn't report it here. Still, I feel like 7 of the people who use the Gateway card getting bricked on this forum is a pretty dangerous number.

IMO the number of affected user isnt the main point...
the points of this happening are the following:

1- The brick code was created by gateway team to damage clone users (not confirmed, but I believe in it)
2- the bad and amateur way that gateway team is dealing with the situation (blaming everybody else, threatening customers, and so on)
3- the $100 shipping if they decide that the brick was user's falt.
4- the lack of locks on gateway hardware to prevent wrong files to cause damage.

I was just trying to figure out what kind of odds of bricking that I am up against. I agree, even one 3DS bricked is too many, for ANY reason. I doubt there are more than 250 people who purchased a Gateway 3DS who frequent this forum, in particular.

That narrows my odds of escaping a brick down to lower than I am fully comfortable with.

I'm using an original Gateway, but before that, I ran 2.0b1 NDS Installer with Supercard DSTwo to set up EMUNAND.
I'm using the original 4Gb Lexar to hold the original 2.0b1 Launcher downloaded directly from gateway's site..

I just switched to 2.0b2, also downloaded directly form Gatewat's site and confirmed the MD5.

Is there any chance my 3DS could get bricked since I used (still use for DS stuff) DSTwo to set up EMUNAND?

PS: I never used any gateway clone on my 3DS.

Thanks!

I have only seen about 4 different cases not sure if some are counting cases from the same person on different forums as a few of them posted on here and max console

Just stop using the second beta (2.0b2), it's not safe at all. The DS card you choose to use for the GW installer is trivial though.

Yup, better safe than sorry!

Just replace the Launcher from my SD Card with the 2.0b1 one (also downloaded directly from Gateway site), right?

Thanks!

The only reason to not use the first beta is due the saving issue, but still it can be circumvented. The code is only confirmed to be present in the second beta.

Also, the emuNAND in 7.1 with the first beta is buggy.
