How long does an avatar change take?

I've changed my avatar but it hasn't applied the changes yet. When I go to change it again, it shows that I've uploaded the new one and am using it, but everywhere else shows my old avatar.

How long does it take for an avatar change to apply?

(If you need to know, this is the avatar I'm trying to use.)

Usually I just stick with Gravatar since that doesn't need people to refresh their cache (but takes around 5mins to apply) only downside is that it has a 100x100px limit but some places on GBAtemp (like blogs) only show that much anyway and cuts off the image if it's 100x140.
