How do you pick your usernames?

I picked Gizmo_Gal because I like electronic technology and I was kind of tired of using my old RPG name everywhere.

I have two sites where I use this name, but I plan on changing over to this name in a 3rd community that I frequent.

Do you use the same user name in several sites?

I've seen some people here that I know from other sites because of their user names.

EDIT : I forgot to mention that I'm called Bob Evil from a line in an episode of Mystery Science Theatre 3000 ...

theclaw: from a character I invented known as The Claw, which was itself inspired by a hand gesture of my creation.
theclaw135: same, but 135 is the Pokedex number for Jolteon.
Eon: shortened from Eonisa, which I came up with by combining the word "eon" with "NIS", an abbreviation often used referring to game published/developer Nippon Ichi.
Mirror-Raichu: a long defunct name I'd gotten in a chat room.
Star_Amy7: also defunct. I forget how it was spelled, but used for a character of mine.

DICTIONARY! My usual username was taken so I flicked through a couple of random words in the dictionary til I found one I liked.

PBC stands for Pacifist Bumper Car. Which is an online name I have used for many many years.
I got the name Pacifist Bumper Car because one day I was at the local carnaval that came to town.
I've always loved bumper cars. SO I went to go play on those first things first. Before I got the chance I stopped to look at all the bumper cars. I noticed one in the corner which was PRISTINE white, without a scuff on it, and it was not connected to the power grid via the pole which touchs the ceiling.

Because it was unable, unwilling to bump the other bumper cars, and it was so untouched I called it the Pacifist Bumper Car. Thus my name, PBC.
The whole name was way too long to register here.
