PS1/2 How do you backup original PS2 DVD Games?

Just a simple noob question on how to do this. I have googled, and it seems straight forward, but I'll ask anyway.

IF I have an original store purchased game, is it as simple as uising imgburn to backup the game, and burning and booting with modchip/softmod/swap magic?

I remember using Alcohol 120% to get a PS2 ISO to test PS2 emulation on my PC, so you can get the ISO.
Not sure about burning and booting as I don't own a PS2.

by get the iso do you mean you made it using alcohol, like "create image" option or something? How long did it take to rip the game? I knowI can download the backups, but I'm more interested in ripping store bought games

DVD Decrypter in ISO mode did it fine when I did it a while back if I recall correctly.

DVDDecrypter and IMGBurn are both fine, free methods to rip PS2 discs.

Do new games have ANY kind of copy protection? I remeber a few years ago you could copy all ps2 games with every software that is able to create copies(Nero, Alcohol, ImgBurn ...).

The only thing close to that that I can think of is DNAS, but you only need that to play online. Besides, there's a patching program that can fake it somehow. I haven't used it.
