Homebrew vWii internet problems while WiiU works fine

hello all! recently modded the vWii side, but it doesn't connect to the internet, whether i try through WiiU or vWii settings. forecast and news channel work fine, however internet channel, check mii out, votes, etc. do not

so far, i've tried hotspots on my computer and configuring my wifi to 2.4ghz with older security (my logic was that maybe the vWii side cannot use newer wifi, only og Wii compatible wifi, but the WiiU can? i'm not knowledgeable on vWii's inner workings).

this feels like an unlikely possibility to mention, but my Wiilink may be a bit jank from the way i installed it? i ran the installer on my sd card once, then again later to get some channels i forgot. id be surprised if that was the case, but maybe its relevant.

i can't do ethernet because of how my house is setup, fyi, but im open to any other solutions

you are correct that it is the vwii side of things, it really only likes old routers same as wii, when i want to use wifi on my vwii or wii i use my phone hotspot with an open(no security) config and it works fine. you could try this. only other option is to find an old router and use it just for wii or vwii off of your current router. Wii and vwii dont like new routers even if you set the 2.4 to b/g/n for some reason i have tested many(cable guy assess to many different newer routers).Hope this helps.

ill try out the phone hotspot and give an update, ty!! i can see why the Wii has such a hatred for newer routers, even if it didnt, i probably couldnt change the right settings to make it work if i wanted to (we can thank isps for locking half the settings)

edit: gahhhh issue... my area has very little cell coverage. ill see if i can make this work!!

update:
miraculously, i got it to work !? i used the wiilink dns (which i already had previously and for some reason now just worked.....??) and re entered it in the vWii settings. it's using my normal, fairly modern wifi, albeit it is VERYYY spotty. it comes back for some moments whenever i re enter the dns in the settings

i would try and get it more reliable but honestly i am not going to look this gift horse in the mouth. sorry to anyone else who may be looking for solutions to this because i dont even know what i did
