What kind of technical knowledge/skill do you need to create homebrew applications? I'm currently learning C/C++, but what else? And what about if I want to create a firmware for a flashcart or other device?

Solution
you dont NEED to know any ASM at all, go download devkitpro, it has all the tools you need for DS homebrew. You can code in c/c++ just fine on the DS, thats what most people use. You should read up a bit on DS hardware also so that you understand about gfx modes and such.

Get DS App Studio and you can code without knowing any C or ASM at all.(although the option is there if you want)
It uses a custom coding language called DSAL.
Its really simple and easy to use.
Here's a handy link.

On a side note, go to google, type in ASM, Look at the 6th result, you wut you lose. GO!
