I am thinking about buying a game from the eshop, and I was wondering how I could then turn it into a CIA file, hell I don't even know where games are stores on the SD after they are installed

You can download a gm9 script to do what you need from here - https://gbatemp.net/threads/release-godmode9-scripts-megathread.482150/

You need this one - Dump Installed Title to .CIA Script

Or you can download the al in one megascript from here - https://gbatemp.net/threads/gm9-script-all-in-one-megascript.496619/

What @Lemmingz is trying to share is info about use GodMode9 *.gm9 scripts that automates dumping (all?) your titles into *.cia.

The other method is the manual way for one or few games to back up. Choose "standard" instead of "legit" if you want decrypted & universally installable CIAs.
