Hacking How did you mod your Wii?

Bought it "pre-modded". Bought the Wii from a store Un-Modded, but the store itself installed the chip for me, right after and such.
Dunno if the guy who did it was a pro, had some problems with my modchip after installation. But it was one of the first D2C chips: 30+ wires!

Wiiclip + Wiikey, and I took the Wii apart and plugged in the Wiiclip.

Modchip >>>>> isoloader. This will always remain true.

To be honest, I made a bit of a hash of it the first time (bridged legs) but then bought a better, finer iron (should have done this in the first place) and fixed it up.

I had done about 10 wiikey installs in the past no probs.

Unless you do something catastrophically stupid, they're pretty robust.

Now that 6-wire chips are the norm again, wired installs shouldn't be a problem - it's just the soldering to legs that screwed me around.

Besides the case mod, I also forgot to say that I made my Disc Slot light always stay on no matter what!

I did not use the Soldering technique.

I went and found my old non-working Tyko RC Rebound, took it apart, removed the copper wire thats strung about inside it, and used it for this easy mod.

I did not strip any of the wires, I just wrapped it around and pushed it down so that it was touching. Then used tape to make sure it stuck.

Dont use a long copper wire as then you will have problems closing it up.

No permenant damage can be done if something goes wrong. The only damage that will occur would be to accidental break the power connection, but it can just be soldered back on.

The faceplate's only function is the disc slot light. You dont need the face plate to turn the wii on, reset, press the sync button, and eject discs.

Its easy - just put it over the chip and clip it down - granted i had to re-seat it about 5 times to get it going , which is believe isnt normal

Were you trying to test it before re-mounting the drive back in the Wii case with the 4 screws by any chance? The reason I ask is that the WiiClip is designed to be thick enough that the 4 rubber-shock-mount screws will force it very snugly down onto the drive controller chip when they are reinstalled... A *great* design feature if you ask me... Looks like it should never come loose...

If you are going to perform the case mod, then you need to listen up.

When you come to the part where you are installing the fan cover, please stop and follow these instructions:

Its very easy and simple. MAKE SURE THAT THE SCREWS ARE ONLY TIGHTENED AS MUCH AS YOUR FINGERS CAN TIGHTEN THEM!. Do not put so much force into screwing the screws down. Dont use the power in your wrists. You will only wear/strip the screw and you will regret it!

By printing out the pictures, you will then be able to keep track of every single screw you unscrew.
After you unscrew, place/tape the screw down onto the paper. This is the best method of keeping track of the screws.

Helpful hint:

If you dont wish to touch the motherboard, the dvd drive, and the other components, then the easiest method would be to just install half the case. By doing this, you are basically just unscrewing the case, removing the old white cover, and putting in the new cover. Much easier than installing a modchip.

This is about the same as unscrewing controllers and switching the colors around.

the term for flashing the code onto the chip is called "programming"

It's never in stock because they sell out immediately when they get them. You will have to order one when it's still out of stock to get one when they come in.

If soldering is not a problem for you you can build the programmer and the chip from parts you find in an electronic store like Radioshack. Just look around the YAOSM forums http://wiinewz.com/forums/yaosm/ . There are tutorials how to build the programmer and the chip. And like a few in this thread said, it's really not that hard. (though it only works for DMS/D2A/D2B-drives)

You still wouldnt know where the screw would go if you did that.

By taping the screw down in the exact picture where it tells you where to unscrew, you would know where exactly the screw went.
