ROM Hack How can I use cheat codes on NDS ROM hacks

So I stumbled across a MKDS ROM hack called Mario Kart DS Deluxe (or sth like that) which demade tracks from future Mario Karts. The game will crash when loading the 2nd track of flower cup, so I want to use some cheats to have Star and Special unlocked. I already have usrcheat.dat in SD:\_nds\TWiLightMenu\cheats, but the cheats can only be used on the normal MKDS ROM.
