Ok, so the 9.60 update rolled out. And people are saying it causes bricks and freezes, errors, and a bunch of other stuff. I'm scared of turning off my PS4 in case it updates when I turn it back on. Please help!

are you official or exploited? I'm not sure if you can delete it if it's downloaded, though you can if it's downloading. it's in the notifications area.
One small problem. I wanna use YouTube and other games that use internet. But I have to update in order to do that...
there's no psn versions, but you have to be on an exploitable firmware. there's no way around it afaik. I don't know if a proxy might work, but I doubt it.
I'm just gonna wait until a new patch/update. Or I might use a DNS like Al Azif's.
best option is to disable the internet for now. I don't think that dns will allow those apps to work as it simply blocks psn while the apps will try to log on and fail. they need to have that requirement patched out, which unfortunately, is only possible with an fpkg on an exploitable firmware.
I'd imagine those issues are likely user error of some sort like with 9.00.
one of my best friends updated to 9.00, @Hayato213 , when it was the latest in order to transfer his games to the ps5. there had been lots of rumors like that about it bricking or causing systems to become unstable just like you've heard with 9.60. he had no issues. the only reason he updated afaik was that he was going to sell the system, and he wanted his games. I think those rumors are probably unfounded. I'm sure sony tests their firmwares very thoroughly, because they'd probably be obligated to fix systems that got fucked up by a firmware update.
I'd only stay on lower firmware if waiting for an exploit. I have an exploited ps4, but my ps5 is signed in to psn at all times, so it updates immediately. I've never had a problem with a firmware on that system right when an update landed. good luck, my friend.
I'm gonna wait until the ps4 stops getting updates and is discontinued to exploit it. Don't wanna risk getting banned. So I'm gonna update and hope for the best.

Now I could go with soldering the contacts from the cable to the connector on the mobo, but doesn't sound like a good permanent solution.

@Maximumbeans, Maybe start practice soldering. Get a cheap-ass soldering iron and follow some good YouTube tutorials.+1

Least my experience has gotten better than over a decade ago. My iron would constantly bump into components and break them.
