Hacking Question Help with exfat sdcard on OS SX

Hi guys, i took out my SD card, backuped it and formated as exfat (it was fat32) to avoid spliting backups bigger than 4GB.
My Switch firmware are on the latest update 5.1.0 but... it's asking for an update to run the memory card,
it's really suposed to work this way?
I did some mistake?
Any thoughts?

Yes, it's supposed to. Just update, you're already on the latest firmware, it will simply install exfat driver.

I thought the exfat driver should be pre-installed as default since firmware 3.x
