Hi. I have a new 3DS running 9.0.0-20E. I have successfully gotten the Homebrew launcher working using the browserhax.

What I would like to be able to do is run 3DS roms off the internal SD card. From what I understand this can be done but the roms need to be converted to CIA files first? Then to run them I need custom firmware?

What are my options here and what in your opinion is the best route to go?

Note: not interested in getting a flash cart.

Cheers,
Chris

Get A9LH+CFW Sysnand setup. You can skip the Downgrading part as your on 9.0 already. Be sure to setup menuhax though, as described in part 1. You can skip changing the date and time in the beginning of part 1.
Guide: https://github.com/Plailect/Guide/wiki

Then convert your .3ds rom dumps to .cia using this guide:

Thanks a lot man. Took me a while but I completed it successfully.
Just got to dump my games now.
Can I follow that guide to install games that I pirated too?

No problem, but I am a girl~! As for games you pirate, you'd just skip the dumping process of the guide and go straight to the steps that cover taking your .3ds dump to .cia. Enjoy~!

Sorry just force of habit.
OK cool thanks. I see there are site where people have just uploaded pre made CIA files. Maybe just easier to look there first.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

One last question... My SD card is too small to store games. Can I just buy a bigger one, then copy pasta the contents from my current one, or do I need to go through that entire tutorial again on the new card?

Thanks,
Chris

If you finished the whole guide, then all you need to do is boot emunand9, by holding Y, on your old SD Card, then press the select button to unmound your old SD Card, insert the new one, then press B to go back to the menu, go to SD Format Options -> Format SD (no EmuNAND). After this is done, either turn off your 3ds, or hit select button to unmound your new SD Card, then you go on your computer, and copy the contents of your old SD Card somewhere to your computer, then copy those files onto your new SD Card. Then insert the new SD Card back into your 3DS and reboot or power on, and you're done~!

You could also use a third party tool on Windows, like:
http://www.ridgecrop.demon.co.uk/index.htm?guiformat.htm

Making sure to format to 32kb or 64kb cluster size (the last two options in that third-party Windows tool) - Then just copy over the contents of your old SD Card onto the new SD Card you just formatted. And you're good to go~!

Thanks again. I just tested this with a spare SD card and it worked.

OK I lied, I have more questions.

Should I update the firmware of my 3DS when Nintendo release the next version?
Am I OK to play these CIA games online?
Is it OK to accept and install game updates (for CIA games) from Nintendo?

Thanks,
Chris

We don't know but you should probably browse here before updating any firmware.
