Hacking Help suggest my action? Thanks!

hello. i have my Switch, and it came with and is still on firmware 3.0.0. Pokemon Sword and Shield will be coming out sometime soon. and i want to get everything ready.

firstly, i have read quite a bit of different things around GBATemp here. but am still confused, and is hard to make sense of it. hopefully someone can help me figure it out! thank you!


1.) it appears i can update to firmware without burning Switch fuses. PLUS it appears i would be able to downgrade too.

so, i need to update to the latest firmware, and be able to downgrade. (do i really need to downgrade?) but it looks like i can only do this up to do 5.1.0. is this true? hmm...

2.) or is there another way? i was reading someone would create some full back up and use one version for online and another for CFW/hacks. can i do this with the latest firmware? say, do the hack and backup 3.0.0 hacked. then i can undo hack and update to 8.0+? then i can swap back-ups at anytime?

3.) or is there another way? i also read someone using emunand for cfw/hacks while sysnand is the clean boot. so like install hacked 3.0.0 to emunand while keep sysnand clean and up-to-date? if this is possible, this seems like the best option. please advise! thank you!




so, basically... i need to update to the latest firmware so it can play online with Pokemon. but i would also like to have a hacked system. i am not interested in having both at the same time. (i know there is still risk of ban even using a swap method, or emunand, but it still seems the safest route. ) i have been under the impression we can somehow swap back ups. or maybe just use different nand-thingys. i am also fine with the cfw/hack back-up being on a lower firmware version, but this doesn't seem possible past 5.1.0. correct? it seems if i want to upgrade without burning fuses, the highest we can go is 5.1.0.

i am also fine with just skipping all of that and simply burning the fuse to update to the latest firmware. but am unsure of the CFW possibilities like this. looks like there will always eventually be a exploit release, it is just a matter of time. again, my switch came with firmware 3.0.0 and is one of those hardware units that can't be 'patched'.





i hope it is clear as of to what i am trying achieve. worst case scenario... i just say forget cfw/hacks. but hopefully someone can recommend to me what a course of action. thank you!

1. Yes you can update without burning fuses with Choixdujour homebrew (everything is explained when you start the process) but to get started you need firmware update files.
2. What prevents fuse burn is autorcm which choixdujour activates by default.
3. Yes you can downgrade to your original firmware later as long as you don't burn fuses (always boot via autorcm after updating) and obviously you'd need to have your firmware version handy.
4. To enjoy hacks and not get banned you either need to stay offline or use Emunand (which is still being implemented by free CFW devs). I honestly prefer their implementation of it since you'll be able to create multiple Emunands: say one for clean gaming or online and another one for homebrew and hacks.
5. But if you don't wanna wait there a paid CFW (SX OS) with Emunand. Some claim it's protected them from ban up to now and others say the implementation needs improvement.
6. That's all I could think of right now. Hope that helps you.

okay. so, from what i can tell, we need to hack to use Choixdujour.

so, now which method can i follow to hack and apply to emunand? i was looking at this guide > https://nh-server.github.io/switch-guide/ but it seems to be for the sysnand.

at any rate... i am not concerned with actually being able to currently run CFW. i just don't want to make the process more difficult later down the road by not taking some precautionary steps before updating my Switch from 3.0.0 to the latest version. i just don't want to be stuck with an ultimatum, like for example... have to choose either don't play Pokemon and wait for my firmware to get exploited, or play and potentially never get an exploit due to having to be always on the latest firmware.

oh, okay... after reading your response a few more times and doing some more searching... i can now see that there isn't any option for free emunand hacking. looks like the only option is a SX OS Pro purchase.

well... there is still quite some time before Pokemon comes out. i will wait for the last second. plus i can see there has been some recent progress in the Switch hacking scene, but many guides don't appear to be updated to reflect this.

in the end... once that Pokemon Shield cartridge is in my hand, i am not waiting one second more. getting cfw/hacks isn't important enough. LOL my 3DS is hacked, but have never once done anything to take advantage of that. *facepalm*

Don’t buy sxos if you just want emunand. Atmosphere and Hekate will be getting emunand sometime this month or next month
