Hi lovely people!!

I'm currently trying to create a model swap for the male and female main characters in Harvest Moon Sunshine Islands to create a gay marriage mod so to speak. I don't particularly want to change any text but who knows where this'll go from here. Right now I'm trying to figure out how to change the sprites out but can't find any definitive answers online. What programs should I use to get this done? I have a Mac, which I know isn't the best for these types of things. :(
Any guidance would be gladly appreciated! I'm kinda a noob at this stuff, but I'm trying my hand at something new and I'm dedicated to following through on it.
