There are install instructions for AuReiNand at the end. Cakes is just used for the downgrade/OTP part. If you're not installing a9lh you can use AuReiNand for the entire guide. Otherwise, you should follow the guide exactly and use cakes, best not mess with what's known to work. AuReiNand pretty easy to install, so you shouldn't need a guide for that. Just download the latest AuReiNand and place the files on the SD, then download the firms from the github page and place firmware.bin (and optionally firmware90.bin) in the aurei folder.

Thanks again. I definitely plan to get A9LH. I just heard that AuReiNand has better interface. Had to go work on my truck, but I'm gonna give it a shot when I get out of the shower. I'll let you guys know how it went. Hopefully no bricks, I'd like to play Fates

AuReiNand is a CFW while A9LH is new exploit that is used to run your hacks. Basically it's installed in your firm to make it so it's a lot harder to brick and you're able to restore sysnand and such if you do get bricked.

Just make sure you follow every step and by the end of the guide you'll be able to use your 3DS as normal (including updating your system) as well as having access to every homebrew app there is.

IKR? He's a n00b. He's gonna brick his 3DS and blame it on that guy. He should just stick with menuhax until he has enough experience to do it.

And you only downgrade emuNand to 2.1, so you can't REALLY brick your system....to badly.

And you only downgrade emuNand to 2.1, so you can't REALLY brick your system....to badly.

You downgrade your emunand and then you clone it to the SysNand however it does scan all the files when it clones it.

Bit of a basic software newb question. I want to format my 3ds. I know this will delete all saves and games on the 3ds (which is 0), but it also says everything on my ad will be "invalidated." How does this work? Will my saves still function or no?

Didn't see anyone respond to this. First, just wondering why you want to format.

If you follow Plailect's guide strictly, you can keep your games, saves, NNID, etc.
If you want to format but also want your saves, you could install from HBL you can use https://gbatemp.net/threads/svdt-save-data-explorer-manager.396562/ or, https://gbatemp.net/threads/release-jks-savemanager-homebrew-cia-save-manager.413143/ once you have FBI installed and run it in emuNAND before you do any formatting.
Then, if you want to have a clean format, in part IV (Restoring the System) of section 4 (Getting the OTP), choose emuNAND_formatted.bin instead of emuNAND_original.bin. (I have done this part before on a system that had no games or saves because I wanted the FBI icon to look right instead of looking like the H&S "!" icon and for some reason this only showed up that way after running TinyFormat)
Once you complete the guide you can reinstall your games, start them once to initialize save data, and then restore your saves to them.

Already done. Got everything working perfectly and installed my emulators on the home screen. Just curios, I know you can install 3ds games as CIAs, but what about ds games?

No, you still need a flashcart for those for the foreseeable future.
