Hacking Help a fool

Hello I have been using Akaio 1.89 sucessfully on a DS lite. The DS is broken but still just usable. Today I bought a used DSi verion 1.4e.
After much reading, I downloaded Akaio 1.90 and ak2ifw_update_3ds43_dsi144_onDSL.nds onto the formatted sd card and placed into the DS lite. I sucessfully updated the firmware. I removed the sd card, placed into the DSi and got the usual black screen with error.
The card still works on the DS lite, but not the DSi.
Can someone please advise me. I posted on the acekard forum, but this forum appears more frequented.

I am willing to bet you actually didn't update your acekard. Did the acekard icon change? When you updated, was there a percentage bar?

EDIT: When you update make sure you follow ALL the instructions, don't just press any buttons.

Gave up on Acekard forum, very helpful, but alas, no joy
Here is what i have done so far , formatted SD card, downloaded the Akaio 1.90 and ak2ifw_update_3ds43_dsi144_onDSL.nds and ak2ifw_update_3ds43_dsi144_onDSi_DSXL_3DS.nds.
I put ak2ifw_update_3ds43_dsi144_onDSL.nds onto the card with akmenu4.nds withe rest of the Akaio 1.90 files.
Inserted into DS lite and run the ak2ifw_update_3ds43_dsi144_onDSL.nds file. Told to remove the flash card , reinsert, then press B. Did that, told update successful.

The icon is indeed the wrong one, the new icon should be of the game "RAFA NADAL TENNIS"

I have a clue of what might have happened:

You got to this screen, correct?

When you're in this screen press START, only START, not another button unless it's the START button. (I am only emphatizing so you don't make a mistake). If you press any other button besides the START button a screen will appear saying that your ak2i was succesfully updated.
After you pressed the START button a screen should appear saying something like "Updating your AK2i. Don't turn off your system" you wait until the percentage reaches 100% and voilá. It will appear a screen saying update succesful, then just turn off your DS lite.

If you still have any doubts, search the youtube for "update acekard 2i DSL". I hope I could help!

EDIT: Tried to fix some english mistakes. I feel such like a english noob!

Dear RodrigoDavy, I cannot begin to tell you how grateful I am. God bless you.
On the Ds lite all the writing has worn off, I think i was pressing the A button. This time i googled a picture and pressed the start button.
I spent sometime on the Acekard forum earlier, and while they tried to help, I gave up.
So thanks for your clear instructions, your time and expertise.
