Basically my ps2's lens is pretty much wasted, it can no longer read dvd movies or cd's and it has a lot of trouble reading games. So i was wondering if there is an HDloader which doesn't require the use of a disc (I do have a modchip installed if that helps).

HDLoader doesn't require the use of a disc anyway. The important question is whether you have an original chubby console and a Network adapter.

Well you need one to even consider HDLoader.....USBAdvance isn't really worth consideration. Better hit the bay and trading forums.

An hdloader.iso will run fine but to what end would you be running it if you don't have an HDD connected up to your PS2?

you need to use a hard drive that fits the network adapter
maxtor is very well known for fitting good

aquarion - you'll need to be able to connect the HDD to the PS2 in some way...that's where the NA comes in!

So the front usb ports on my ps2 are useless? Damn that sucks.
Yep, you need one of this.

Then you can plug your HD into that.

BTW, I had one but I only used it one time. Now I can't remember correctly... but didn't you had to use the HDLoader DVD to run games from HD?
So I guess that a completely dead lens won't get you anywhere in every case

If it still reads a bit, even slightly, you might be able to run the disc.

I also remember that there was a method to install the HDLoader to a MemCard and boot it from there, but I can't REALLY remember anything else on it :/

The front USB ports are useless with HDLoader but not with HDAdvance. However, HDAdvance is next to useless (well i admit that's an overly harsh and negative view!) since those USB ports are USB 1 and hooking up an external HDD is going to give you speed and compatibility issues.

I see, well I'm going Network Adapter hunting then(unless those cost more then a new ps2, if that is the case I'll buy a new ps2
