Gaming Has anyone seen those new "widescreen" laptops?

Brand new when it first came out six months ago it was around $1.200 for the 16" model with 4 gig ram, 240 gig hdd and Geforce 9500m GS 512meg graphics card.

Probably cheaper now, best value laptop you can get in my opinion, its an epic machine!

It's 18.4inh, damn that thing would be really heavy and it isnt even that fast

I got this one last week, runs crysis and left 4 dead perfectly

hmm not bad, though to be honest i don't rly trust the acer brand but this mite be an exception.

The only thing I can complain is that it's not easy to carry around and it grabs too much attention at my university =/
Other than that, I think this is probably one of the coolest labtop I have seen

it was a 1200 a few days ago. i'll wait a month or so for the price to go down. the only thing i don't like is the low cpu speed. i would prefer around 2.4, but i can live with it.

It's going to be a while before 64bit operating systems (required to recognize more then 4GB of ram) become the industry standard. You would have to change the OS on that second laptop you posted in order to get it to recognize more then 4GB. Although the laptop you linked would be ideal for gaming (assuming you cant find a decent one with a 9800m graphics card and a faster CPU), you shouldn't base your decision on minor factors like ram capacity and graphics card memory. The graphics card and CPU are going to be what bottlenecks it in the future.

Just because it's upgradable to 8GB doesn't mean that it comes with a 64 bit Operating System.

And yes, the 9800 is much better.

It's exactly as you said, the computer itself can recognize the 8GB of RAM, but you'll need a 64 bit OS for it to utilize all of it for actual programs.

It does have wireless N, well mine does, as for the ram 4 gig is enough for a laptop surely?

yes, the 9800 is much better.

A 9600M can run any of today's games without a hitch, and can probably run most of tommorrow's, but if you are as interested in "future-proofing" your laptop as you seem to be, the 9800 would probably be the best choice for you

hm my friend bought is laptop a few months ago for 1700 and it has a 9700, so the price for laptops with a 9800 aren't gonna drop to my level for a while :S

I would love to get these extra wide widescreens... they come with a FULL keyboard (including numberpad, as said above)... no more "Fucntion" key to get to the keys that we should have... I so miss my full keyboard when playing FPSs and MMORPGs... much eaiser than a laptop keyboard!
