So I have recently been using my external Seagate 1 tb expansion hard drive, and now suddenly it’s been super slow, with general speeds of copying and transferring of 1 mb/s when it used to be around 100 mb/s... what happened? I’ve tried defragmentation, checking for corrupted files, everything.

3 main options if you have ruled out it being accessed for some reason.

1) The hard drive is dying and reallocating sectors on the fly.
2) The caddy part of it is dying and only reporting as USB1.1. Can try in a different caddy if it is one of those drives that is basically a normal drive underneath it all (for some reason various external drives stopped being this a while back).
3) Your computer's USB is dying and only allowing USB1.1 communications (had it happen a few times over the years, not recently though).
