Okay, so, let's get started. The new semester has just begun and one of the classes that I've been looking forward to a while has finally reached my roster: Computer Illustration I. The whole class is focused around usage of Illustrator CS3, pretty self explanatory.
The first week we spent learning how to get the hang of the Pen Tool and other crucial tools. I still find the Pen Tool to be a bit confusing and tedious at times, and there's a lot in Illustrator that strays away from what I've burned into my mind from PS. I guess it just takes time to learn something new.
So, above is the result of my first project. The requirements were to create a Halloween Scene from scratch and include six Halloweeny (lollers) objects from a list of items. A few things I've learned from my instructor and myself from this first project:
1.) Sketching things out on paper before hand helps a buttload. I personally didn't sketch everything out beforehand, only base objects. Sometimes you work better when you create spontaneously.
2.) Shortcuuuuuuuuuuuts. OMFG. Fucking shortcuts. They saved my balls a LOT of time.
3.) Vector graphics are oh-so-sweet.
Anyways, I think I did pretty good for my first few time using Illustrator. The time spent was definitely worth it. Speaking of which, I had to stay two days in a row after classes until 10 pm (school's closing time) to use Illustrator in open labs. Pretty brutal, but also very cool. I've never stayed that late before. Plus I got to work with the beautiful Macs. My computer at home lacks the ram to run Illustrator, yet runs Photoshop.
So now, I turn to you, awesomely awesome GBAtemp.net community, for comments and criticism! The more the better! Bring your family and friends! Let it all hang out! Tell me what ya think and Happy Halloween!
