Who said the clones are not updatetable? Gateway said this in one of their statement.

MT Card is made by the very same team behind 3DSLink, Orange3DS and whatever, the only reason they have a different card with different features is because the 3DSLink and co's FPGA cannot be updated, therefore it will never be able to have multirom capabilities.

In fact, technically speaking, it will be impossible for the 3DSLink and co to run gateway's 2.0 firmware with multirom capabilities considering the ASIC will behave differently and their own ASIC cannot be updated and therefore wouldn't understand any kind of commands meant for multirom support.

The clone makers understood that and went up with another card that does have an updatable FPGA and released it as another brand with a bunch of useless features such as an usb port or a hardware button.

MT card is built at the same factories as the other clone cards (so far) and the Launcher.dat still contains the same keys and addresses for all the obfuscation stages as both clones and gateway (clones copied it from gateway and didn't bother even changing a single key or the stages' headers' magic values)

Claiming MT card is another card from an "innovative" team, is a delusion.

And do he know, how exactly they work? No. There can be a CPU inside of the FPGA, which can do the update.

Have you ever looked at Actel's A3P250 datasheet (you haven't otherwise you'd know it's doesn't have an integrated cpu module and that it's internal modules/components aren't customizable) and followed the traces on the 3DSLink card ? (then you'd know the right pins aren't exposed) You really should, then you'd have your answer.

It doesn't matter, which lines are connected or not. The firmware can do almost everything, the creator want to do with it including reprogramming the FPGA.

The launcher is magically going to make pins appear on the hardware to allow re-programming of the FPGA?

Why doesn't Nintendo release an update to make their 3DS screens 1080p then?

EDIT: Just updated my laptop's BIOS wirelessly from my desktop computer using the power of friendship, this checks out.

Because you don't understand it. The FPGA firmware has access to every part of the hardware of the FPGA and can flash a new firmware.

The BIOS is a EEPROM and can't execute code itself. The FPGA firmware can be programmed to update the firmware.

Even if that's true....wouldn't a failed update effectively brick the card......and if true maybe then gateway will use this to just brick the card aswell if they try using their updates again, I'm sure gateway will of looked into it, just because it could do something if programmed to do it, doesn't necessarily mean it was programmed to do it

Well, I'm not certain that Gateway has the JTAG pins connected to the gamecart pins; it could be updatable the same way the DSTWO does. I tried to trace this connections once and I found the clock missing, but I'm not sure about this, I could be wrong.

Oh man, can't see the video. :(

I'm brand new and I just bought a GW card, so if someone could please clarify for me, multirom means you can have many games on your micro SD card at once? Right now can you only have one game for each micro SD card?

A FPGA is an array of logic gates. You can't just do all you want with it, it does not "execute code" per se, as such it does not "execute instructions" stored in a "firmware", and it isn't a CPU (even though depending on the gates setup it can act a lot like one).
What you can do with a FPGA is often defined by the components it is interconnected with. (You should really read that datasheet now)

Yeah you can have multiple games per SD and there is a cool little GUI available to select games by pressing select on the homescreen

And just to clarify, it's not out yet

Did i speak from the FPGA, when i said "execute code"? No. The FPGA has an internal memory which conteins the firmware. That can be reprogrammed, if you program a firmware, which can do this.

Ooh, that sounds neat. Thanks for clarifying.
I'm terrified to use my brand new GW though because of the whole bricking mess. My cards are still neatly packaged in their wrapping.

No....No it can't go read the datasheet it can ONLY be reprogrammed through the JTAG pins.

Look a new chinese member here since yesterday asking questions about gateway; see... Chinese Mafia.

You could stick to 1.2 FW for the time being, If you want to be extra safe, it's pretty basic but you can play most games on it, and it has region free, you will not be able to use emunand or newer games but it's better than nothing till you get the all clear and feel comfortable

This makes it sound like an std lol
