I find this advancement in Wii hacking to be trivial. I don't see why anyone would require such useless modifications to their Guitar Hero username. You should just close this thread because, I, for one, think it is lame.

Ignoring the above lame post by bobitos....

A simply edited string in a save file often means a simply crashed game, which means potential for a new ELF loader. Always nice to know what games are susceptible like this.

True enough. An elf loader would be possible. GHIII might be more exploitable than Zelda.

In any case, I'm enjoying my new username. My entire e-mail address fits, so it's more obvious for people to notice. I've been getting a lot of friend codes this way.

Next, I'll try a long string.... say 32 characters.... so it runs all across the screen.

Ok I made the bookmark and made sure it works. I just decided to reupload the saves again b/c the second one I uploaded was the same as the first. My mistake. Everything should be here.

No wonder!

I used Hex Workshop to do a binary comparison, and it showed them as identical.

EDIT: Okay, I replaced the string. Backup your save and see if it works: http://www.sendspace.com/file/eq14tw

I just noticed, why would you need to hex-edit your save file anyway? You can simply change your Subspace save's name by pressing B on the world map, selecting the current name (go left at Sticker), and pressing A.

Edit: Nevermind, go to group > names and erase them.

Even though a more practical solution was found, I'm curious of the edit worked.

I tried installing the save you edited and it worked but is seems all you did was swap files. Under SSE it has my old save file with the name and all data, not just the name change. It has my 99% save file instead of the 100% save with Jrome. But that's ok, we don't have to worry about it anymore. Oh and JR0ME will show up like *.2...-.% in the save. That's what it looks like after I added a name in the game and extracted my save.
