The good news is HeartGold/SoulSilver is coming out and it's obviously a remake of the games in the best Pokemon Generation.
No one is too old for Pokemon. I tried one Dragon Quest game but I immediately stopped when I was killed by a giant enemy and it was clearly a mismatch (he had like 70 HP when I had lesser but I can't remember)...
I agree - starting from Ruby, Pokemon just doesn't feel "classic" anymore. I hated the 3rd generation artwork. Not much originality (some are based on older Pokemon especially the Aron evolution line. Rhyhorn + Steel?)
