So, the tiny gray guard that holds the touch screen ribbon in place into the motherboard is broken. Is there anything I should do? And should I be worried? Thanks

I just noticed that three of the prongs that connect to the guard are gone too :( Is there any other way I can hold the ribbon in place?

I broke mine too on my japanese 3DS.
Use some electrical tape after correctly aligned the ribbon cable in the connector (as if the guard was not broken).

Are the prongs that go through the guard also used to connect? Because I've tried the electrical tape method and made sure everything was in line, but it still isn't detected. Three of the prongs that go through the guard are broken.

Can you post a picture ?

Here, sorry if it isn't clear enough, and thanks for helping me. No matter how secure I try to make it, I don't get any response.

To be broken ... it's broken. ^^;

But I do not think this ribbon is for display. It is more likely for microphone or button inputs.

3DS Camera, 3D screen and touchscreen have wider ribbons.

So, if you do not have display, this the near wide ribbon.

But, maybe I am wrong. These are hypotheses from my own screens problems during shell swappings.

I already know it's the touch screen ribbon. I tried replacing the touch screen because it was already faulty, but now it doesn't work at all. So are you saying there is no hope of fixing?

Yeah, I just read your past posts. I did not disambly this part of my own 3DS.

So, the exact problem is you do not have inputs from the touch screen, not the display... I will check something on one of mine.

So... I just checked how it looked on mine. I do not think you cannot fix it... It just horrible to find the right good position and to maintain the cable.

By the way... When I opened mine, I mistakenly slightly peeled off the adhesive of the wide ribbon for bottom display (the one I broken)... D'oh!

Those things are delicate, man (especially that small touchscreen cable conenctor). Be more careful next time.
At this rate it doesn't seem as though there is a next time. I'm not sure how much is on me though, considering the thing shattered when I was closing the guard. Guess I'm just going to have to find games that don't use the screen.

If you're feeling confident with your hand-eye coordination, you can try hot-gluing the ribbon into place. Make sure to keep it in tight while the glue hardens. That's about all you can do really. I had a DS with a broken hinge (not completely though. Just enough on the right side where it just flops around). So I just used epoxy type glue on the hinge and it works just like a new one. :D

Can this still be done even with the top set of contacts broken? (The ones that attach to the guard)

I would assume the actual conductive contacts are on the bottom. The part of the cable that actually matters. The hot glue should just hold it in place. It doesn't have to be super strong.
That's exactly what I thought, but the top ones are tipped as though they'd be conductive, and I'm getting no results from electrical tape, but I suppose I've got nothing to lose at this point; thanks for the help.

Yeah the connector is sensitive. (I learned this the hardway with my DS lite back when I was case switching. Though I had broke it when it wouldn't power on. But a few weeks later I revisited it and reconnected the ribbon cables and then it worked gain. So them connectors are picky. :P )

So you need to make sure it's on tight when glue sets. I don't think tape would do the job in this instance as there is a little give in the tape no matter how tight you put it on.

Buy a p6 zif connector for ds on ebay and solder a new one back on. slighty different in design but work perfectly.
Buy more than 1 just incase u make a mistake.
remove the old one with a sharpe stanley blade, keep away from the solder pads You can clean them up afterwards with a hot soldering iron.
luckily you only damage the p6, the other zif connectors are harder to find.
good luck

My Pixel Pro buds shit the bed a month or two ago. My wireless charger (which they do support Qi charging) absolutely COOKED them. Caused some problem that caused the case to heat up to 180F+
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
They were like 9 months out of warranty but I hit up Google support anyway and told them how hot they were getting and they replaced them with new ones because they wanted these for failure analysis lol

    lol wireless charging

Yeah that's why I can't bring myself to even spend $100 on wireless earbuds

I think it's a cool idea but damn

Apparently the case has a problem with >15W wireless chargers. Google design fault, that one.

I could live with wireless charging if the damn standard case doesn't block connection

    Copper conducting electricity or something
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@Xdqwerty, power through a coil of wire causes an electromagnetic field to be generated. Another coil of wire can be set up to harness the power from that electromagnetic field and turn it into usable energy for charging a device
