Today, I am one of the annoying noobs, but PS3 hacking always seemed unapproachable for a neophite.

I got a Slim with updated Rogero and MultiMan on it, which is great, but besides playing original games and backups from the internal HDD, I don't know much else about it and I'm extremely curious about quite a lot of things.

How would one switch to a bigger HDD while not losing anything (saves, CFW, ...)?
About going online, is it safe to game online with original games? I got a few from the deal and, of course, might buy more.
Is it possible to get DLC, downloadable games or sign up for PSN+ to get free games and discounts and all that, or it isn't safe? Maybe I should have some hardware device?
And, finally, is there a nice place to keep learning that teaches things to those new to the PS3?

Depends on the time you want to spend. Is this your unit to begin with? Or was someone else's sold to you. (ask because saves)

Easy Way - Go into settings and you'll see a backup system option - > plug in large USB disk -> sit back for hours to days depending on how much data you have. (Download the same CFW you're running onto a USB stick PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP) Remove old HDD->install New -> Boot PS3 and connect a usb cable to your controller. Insert stick with CFW in system and let it update and install. You'll be at a fresh CFW install. (For the love of god DO NOT UPDATE YOUR FW IF ANY DISCS ARE IN OR MOUNTED on XMB, IT WILL USE THOSE FIRST!!!!)

Once you're done installing the CFW, just go back to settings, restore system, plug in usb disk and sit for hours again. Reboot system and you should be back and kicking.

Short way (assuming you dont care about anything but saves - and few at that), just export saves to a stick, stick new drive in, install CFW, and import saves. Some saves will need to be resigned if they don't work.

Running any CFW PS3 on PSN is a ban risk. Doesn't matter if it's a legit game or not - you can use PSN patch to stealth it, but it's easy to detect CFW and syscalls. Never launch homebrew while logged into PSN. You could dual boot your PS3 with OFW/CFW, but that requires a lot more hardware and expertise.

If you want to always use PSN, it's best to just get a 2nd hand PS3 on OFW for those times.

Would there be anything to care about other than saves?

It's a shame about no PSN... Maybe I'll look into other options, maybe not. It's not really for gaming, more for accessing the shop.

Thanks for the help.

Going on PSN with a CFW is always a risk, yes, but unless you're doing something to actively draw attention to your console, like cheating or playing a game before release date, it's mostly safe. I've been playing mine online for years now, never been banned, booting games through Stealthman and only signing into PSN once I'm already in game.

I don't event necessarily want to game online, it's not something I do (mostly because I suck), but I'd like to get DLC and PSN games. Any stealth or something programs I should use?

I haven't looked recently so maybe it's changed, but used to be you could get DLC and PSN games in pkg format (at the same sort of sites where you find full games, so DO NOT ASK WHERE TO FIND THEM it is against gbatemp rules) which you just install in the pkg manager that your cfw should have added to the xmb. No PSN needed in the first place.

You can also use an external hdd for the pirated retail games. It's easier than changing the internal hdd. Never go online. Download pirated dlc and psn games from the internet. You will find all the important dlcs.

well even if you replaced the HDD with higher capacity one wont loose your CFW'ed PS3, just reinstalling it will do the trick
to transfer the data without loosing any kind of data stored on it, Rogero CFW doesnt have this feature but Rebug/REX CFW does have it, and its called "Debug for HDD Exchange Utility" which lets you copy the the contents of the current installed Drive on PS3 on to the USB HDD drive (probably with a help of USB to SATA adapter).

About going online, is it safe to game online with original games?

the only safe way to play online is staying on OFW, nothings safe in CFW when it comes to Sony's big Ban Hammer.

Is it possible to get DLC, downloadable games or sign up for PSN+ to get free games and discounts and all that, or it isn't safe?

same as above

And, finally, is there a nice place to keep learning that teaches things to those new to the PS3?

google.
