So I've had Gateway on my 3DS since I bought it. Ever since it's been discontinued I've thought about installing Luma and retiring it forever. Thing is, I've put my 3DS on hiatus for some time, but now I really want to play some Story of Seasons, so I guess it's time to install Luma and make my life easier for the future.

Now, I've got a few questions:

1. Is the risk for soft bricking considerable? Back when I first wanted to do this installation, it was all pretty difficult and the chance of screwing it up was not small
2. Back when I was still using the 3DS frequently (2016), I used Gateway only as an Emunand for installing .cia games. I have some save games that I would really prefer not losing, how would I go about transfering those from the Gateway emunand to the new Luma? If it's possible, do I not format my SD card? Can Luma be installed on a card with pre-existing data?
3. I suppose there's no problem about playing legit purchased carts with a cfw?

Really, the most important question is whether I'd be able to keep my savegames, I have a lot of groomed Pokemon in ORAS and I'd really like to keep 'em.

Thanks!

1. It is possible to brick, but only if you do something wrong. If you follow the instructions, you will be fine. Just follow this guide: https://3ds.hacks.guide/

2. First, install Luma. Use the guide I linked earlier. When you get to Finalizing Setup, there will be a link to Move Emunand in Section II. If you do it right, you won't lose anything.

3. Yes, legit games still work.

EDIT: Even if you do brick, it is possible to unbrick, if you have a compatible DS flashcard.

I mean almost every first party switch title of the past year or two leaked at least a week in advance for a while now haven't they?
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Not all of them, but yea many.
  • Quincy @ Quincy:
Metroid prime 4 I wouldn't be surprised if that title will be a SwitchU title (here's hoping Nintendo won't go with such a ridiculous name again)
