The biggest problem I have with the sig "guidelines" is that it requires people to use "common sense". If anyone has noticed, there are very few people here with common sense. If people had common sense, you wouldn't have spam and useless posts like "Hi", "I agree", ":)" and so forth.

Well as I didn't make the rule post in the first place, there's nothing I can say about the way it was worded...

I will direct you to the sig guidelines and ask if you guys have problems with the way it's now worded...

Again in no way do I have anything to do with how rules are worded, I just enforce them as I see fit, like every other mod on the board...

All the rules are guidelines...

Just think if we enforced every rule to the letter, that we banned or suspended everyone who cussed? Flamed? Brought up a warez question? Asked a stupid question? Spammed?

I just jumped in here when I saw Tempests sig brought up like he was only wearing it to break a rule, when infact he's had that sig longer then most of you have been here, so long it is a part of him as he appears on the board...

And Darkforce all I have to say to you do yourself a favor and look at the link above, and then come back here and tell me what I need to do...

One of the problems with letting people choose a size to use is the fact that everyone has different opinions on what is annoying and what isn't. The people that have big sigs don't find them annoying while others apparently do.

As for Tempest's sig, yes it was above the guidelines, but as I stated before, it only broke my page on the rare occassion. I understand that his sig identifies him, thats how I recognize his post usually, but he shouldn't get special treatment just because he is a mod. I'm not saying this so that he drops the sig, especially since the rule was abolished, but everyone here knows that the original rule, as it was posted, was broken by mods while the majority of everyone else changed theirs.

As for enforcing the rules, you are going about it the right way most of the time. People deserve a warning or two, but there have been repeat offenders who don't get stopped until they voluntarily leave. The problem with giving people too much freedom is that they don't know how to properly use their freedom and end up abusing it. (If that makes any sense.)

This whole situation is a perfect example of how politics seeps into everything. When a rule is made, it is followed unless it affects the "politicians" and then it becomes a guideline. The politicians are the first to recommend a budget cut from public programs, but when it comes to taking a cut to their salary or one of their own programs, its unheard of.

Being a champion of the "guideline" idea, I'm glad "I won." It isn't left up to people in general. It's left up to the mods, so that if you get stupid, it will be removed without warning. There is still a 400x100 guideline in place, and if you choose to run afoul of it, you risk the staff thinking it is too large. So, obviously, it behooves you to not get ridiculously large with them. I don't see the problem. It sounds like piss'n and moan'n to me, especially by the people who "lost."

To bottom line this real quick...

Before the rule was posted for all to see, we had deceided to have 50 kbs be the enforced rule and 400 x 100 be the guideline, it is not my or any other mods fault that KiVan was gone for so long after he posted the rule up, that he didn't put up all of what we intended or that it took this long to see the way it was ment to be properly worded...

KiVan's absence effected this board more then he knows...

And this isn't politics, it's KiVan's board.... None of us were voted into office, we were drafted... (still wonder why I'm one of them but I digress)

If anyone wants to make suggestions or complain about anything post it up in the suggestion board... If it's a good one it will more then likely be dealt with or put into effect...

If it's not drop it...

That's not a perfect example at all, none of the mods said "Oh can i be a mod? I would really love to be one." we were chosen KiVan and existing mods. A politician on the other hand would choose to be a polititcian. We didn't have to agree to an invitation to being a mod, and i can assure you that we are trying the best of our ability to have the interests of the members at heart. We just have to jumble those interests with other aspects that perhaps the common member wouldn't think about, such as conserving space so that the board remains operational. We don't get paid for this job, we don't get anything. We do it because we care about this community.
The sig restriction rule was something that not all staff members could decide apon. I never wanted a sig rule, all i hoped for was that people wouldn't make huge images as their sigs, that they'd use some common sense. If they did use images that were visibly too large they would be removed. I think the sig rule now works much better as a guideline, there are some great sigs that members wear that aren't under 400x100 but they also weren't so big that they could be seen as a real problem.

Remember the whole reason this forum and community is here, is for fun. We don't have to delve deep into politics, it's just not necessary to take on the forum at that sort of level. Lets lighten up a bit

BOTTOM-BOTTOM LINE:

RULE: Under 50k
SUGGESTION: 400x100
PLEASE USE: Common Sense
MODS MAY: Remove sig if they feel it is too big

--------------------------------------

This has always been the intention for the sigs by the post made by KiVan from the beginning. Many misunderstood it at first as I did, hence, where we are now. An argument about a misunderstanding.
