Nice. Are you able to add a backlight (or frontlight?) to a GBC and outright sell a GBA with a backlight?

I'm working on creating a backlit GBC but its proving difficult.

Yes I can sell a completed Backlit GBA no problem. What colour would you like?

Cartmanuk or anyone else - are you able to source the following item from China, for sale here on gbatemp or ebay or similar - http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=39228683802 . It's the one which allows brightness adjustment using Select+L. Other items from the same taobao seller are at http://gbaguan.taobao.com/ but I'm pretty sure the linked item is the one I want, although I'm not sure what the various options are in drop-down lists when buying.

These cables are quite expensive at the moment but I will look into purchasing a bulk lot from FC if enough people are interested.

The options are:
-32 pin cable
-40 pin (A) Screen
-40 pin (B) Screen

It seems like the super-deluxe version to me - I really like the idea of being able to change the brightness electronically, without having to open the battery compartment and switch something in there as one of the other cables from the same seller does.

If my translations are right, this cable also includes, I think, additional circuitry to "stabilize" the power drawn by the screen. I think this is to reduce problems some people have reported using the standard cables where for example some flash carts don't work, or when playing some GB or GBC games.

Do you know how much the cable would be, in UK GBP?

There is also http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=39230991276 although according to @Romain80200 in http://gbatemp.net/threads/gba-backlight-agb-001.328487/page-36#post-5059480 that one is for a frontlit screen rather than backlit - do you agree with that?

Well I'm planning to get my GBA an front light, since I don't want to just twrow away an original good working GBa screen :v (else I find the motherboard of a gba ad replacement cases, so I can assemble a new one with the gbaSP screen ... but I don't have much money lol)

Well I have here an old cellphone ("MP5 player") that can be sacricied for that. I can get the leds from it's backligth and if it don't have an acrilic pieces I coud use the glass of tre screen , right? the screen are also a bir bigger than the GBA one ...
Also there are here some old cellphones that I could get the leds from the screens backlights...
Well someone with more knowledge could give me a hand here ?

Hi everyone! I still can't get my hands on an ags 101 screen. Any idea where I can find one? I've routinely checked eBay but can't seem to find any "as is" systems and don't want to cough up money for a new one.

I used information in this thread to complete my backlight install, so I figured I'd share my experience.

For those looking for a used ags101, make sure you frequently check out local pawn shops and used electronic boutiques. I have a few locally and the used electronics store / pawn shop constantly has handhelds coming in and out, plus and they don't know the difference between the 001 & 101; I could get 101s for 20 bucks at least twice a month. I live in a smaller city too.

I worked with a 32 pin gba motherboard and I had to connect recv and com to ground in order to get brightness and contrast to look right. The pot doesn't seem to do anything for me. Make sure to use the thinnest gauge wire you can find, as thick wire will pull out traces when wiggling everything into place closing the shell (oops). If you don't have thin wire, just rip apart an old usb cable or something. The shell will close up best if you take the time to scrape the sticky rubber backing off the screen. That extra millimetre counts.

Hello everyone I'm about to try the AGS101 mod and I have a couple of questions, and I hope you can help me.
My GBA is a 40 pin one and thus I ordered the 40 pin cable.
Now I received a solderless one. I've heard the solderelss ones give a dimmer light than the ones with a soldering cable attacehed to it.
Is that true? If so, as I understand I need to solder a wire to the cable and to the GBA, just like I would've with the solder version.
But where exactly on the cable?
I've attached a picture of the cable I received.

Solder to the trace marked P1. If you look through the pictures in this thread, you can catch glimpses of other people's ribbons with the wire soldered to the P1 trace.
