I just received this for the holidays and opened it up to see that the plated connections have some sort of corrosion on them. I can't really test since I'm still waiting for the 9.2 support but YeahGeek says they test each one before shipping.

I did try to clean with 91% Iso Alcohol on a Q-Tip. It didn't do much to clean it up.

I emailed them to see what can be done. Has anyone had this issue before?

Link to pics, they are big.

It seems only the blue card has some bad corrosion but the red card however seems fine (which is more important). If you have a DS or DSi ,you can test the blue card and see if it works.

yeah, if its only the blue card you definitely have nothing to worry about, worst case scenario you'll have to buy a cheap r4, acekard, or use this as an opportunity to get a supercard dstwo (best flash card ever) and you can load the gateway exploit from one of those instead of the blue gateway card which is really just a cheap ds flash card anyway.

looks like rust, since they used the cheapest metal they could to make those junk r4 clones, its no surprise

IIRC, the blue card doesn't work for the later firmwares anyways. Unless it is necessary for the later firmware compatibility, which, based on what Gateway has said, it isn't, you should be fine since the red card seems to be okay.

It seems the red card has one spec of rust. If I were you, I would request a replacement. The inside might be corroded and you wouldn't know.

I did the same thing when I got my DSTwo... Came with two specs of rust.

Gold plated, they are called gold fingers.. All will go like that eventually and it's not rust.. Oxidised is the term, you can always solder over them and remove the solder to fix the issue if you know what you are doing.

Gold shouldn't oxidize.

If they are using gold as plating material at all, they must be using very little of it because the material underneath (steel/aluminum) is rusting/corroding away.

Either way, I would return it for a replacement.

The copper pad had oxidised that's why it looks that way.

Since nobody said this...

It might be flux. Corrosion doesn't come off with alcohol, but flux comes off extremely easily with 99% iso alcohol. Granted, flux can corrode over time since it's normally used as a cleaning agent to remove oxidation (meaning that it could go through metal given enough time), but I've never seen it happen. Chinese boards aren't always cleaned 100% clean of flux, so chances are that some splashed on there and it just kinda stuck. The longer it's left though, the harder it is to clean. Try scraping at it with a toothpick and then attempt to clean it again with alcohol.
