Hacking Gateway site update

well.. GW ended for me but not that I don't think it's pratic ... I mean, it's not needed anymore but we can't say that it's not useful , right? xD
But since I was without a 3DS I borrowed my GW to a friend, and he got his packback stolen, with the 3DS, my GW and a lot of his stuff .3.
Since they are very expensive here and still without a 3DS I don't plan getting a new one.

not useful if you want only to play with free game.

well t having to install the game is handly xD and for testing mods (translation, etc, that is something I plan to do) without having to wait it install is really usefull
But yeh just to play, no prob, get soon!2 and be happy xD since you are just instaling it once

You do realize that it is technically doable to add patches allowing to redirect SLOT1 reads to a 3DS ROM mounted from the SD card right ? You could also patch the home menu to add some way of selecting the ROM you wish to mount. In theory with heavy (and complicated) patching one could even mount several roms at once by adding virtual devices and basically add all of your 3DS roms within the home menu. (the solution of redirecting SLOT1 and having a selection menu is however a lot easier/feasible/practical)

I don't own a GW, I am just annoyed with how I have to include 'legacy' stuffs in my software just to make it compatible. And, for legitimate reasons, not everyone is that nice (to keep supporting this). Anyways, of the top of my head:

• Gateways 4.x downgrade feature leaves a mess on the CTRNAND and likely leads to fragmentation. Bad idea, especially if users don't keep backups.
• Gateway does not support RedNANDs and forces their own EmuNAND format (which was the standard a little while ago) on everyone
• Gateways signature patching is incomplete, for reasons unknown. Decrypted .3DS are not supported (even if you cryptofix, you have to reencrypt it), and for CIA only the first contents signatures are patched. This means, in essence that you can't install CIA packs, and you can't have CIAs with cryptofixed manuals. There is no logical reason behind this, except that they are two lazy to let one of their devs spent an afternoon (and it won't take longer!) to fix this. This bug is also the sole reason for the "CIA Decrypt (CXI)" feature in D9.
• Despite the above, they claim 100% rom compatibility, which is somewhat of a blatant lie.
• There was a time when they intentionally bricked consoles. I respect that they have to protect their money and that they have to prevent other flashcards from using their software, but if they can detect it, they can just make their software stop working instead of bricking the whole console.
• They are, in general, a bunch of lazy bastards. Despite of their customers paying for the hardware, they don't bother keeping up to date with the current development, even if all it would take, in many cases, would be a simple copy and paste. Instead of fixing the obvious problems I mentioned (and a lot of people pointed out to them), they add new features no one asked for, but that make good sales points (cheats, anyone?).
• Also, keep in mind that their GW card is more than a dongle (with storage) for their shitty software.

ok but why do you care? you have already said you dont have one, you dont want one, so what does any of that have to do with you, and why does it upset you enough to warrent constant moaning about it, if you dont like gateway then the best thing you could do is ignore gateway releated threads and focus on your CFW threads, moaning about GBA support or a9lh support for a product you do not and never will own is a bit pointless

I wouldn't care if it wasen't the sloppiest CFW that you had to pay to use while also the only paid-for 3DS CFW.

9.2 support come, then RXTools just to load the emunand without the pirate" stuff possible, them they made possible and now more CFWs than nintendo handheld models? XD

I was using my GW only for .cia games but since a CFW can do exactly that why bother? I mean if something new gets released you have it on your CFW in a couple of days whereas with GW you wait couple of months to get something as "simple" as GBA support.

man, R4 wasn't the first DS flashcard and not even the best, but was the first simple that made a lot more come latter
you may not like it but it was useful, it changed the stuff and it don't keep actually updating themselves...
Gw are doing thei way, you don't have to buy one to have a CFW but idk at leats be grateful they helped us to have what we have to day ... ince they SELL the stuff and probably ajve a small then than devs doing and testing CFW, of couse they gonna walk slow and have to make sure it don't will cause problens for the users xp
If you brick you console trying normally usea free CFW it's your fauld, but if it was for something you boungth? you would accept the fault too? they don't have the warning that every CFW tutorial have that is " I'm not resposible if you brick your console using this", because they need to make sure it's not possible if you follow their step and they have to make sure fo that, right?:v

gateway was the gateway for all current CFW's without them you would probably not have any CFW's right now, seriously if you love CFW so much go marry it

but sure gateway are slow and old but you dont just put your grandfarther down because you can run faster they can still contribute to the scene, they have been the innovators for a lot of stuff so they have my respect for that even if they are now pretty much beaten in 90% of things by CFW's they still chug along and provide updates despite the fact that i don't think anyone would blame them if they quit today
