Hacking Gateway ROM Patcher

On a totally unrelated topic (topic #4), , I just saw on another thread some chick named "April" bricked her 3ds on the new Gateway Omega 2.1 and then to make it worst someone called her a "fool".

what day is it? oh damn still march 31,2014. This might be funnier in a few hours.

back on topic
A shouldn't this be called a cleaner not a patcher ?
B Anymore info on what extra bytes are/do?
C 1 vote yes for open source tools

BTW,Feel free to delete from thread if joke is too subtle for our foreign speaking friends.

April Lavigne doesn't know how to use her 3DS...

A. Probably
B. According to Gateway and the dev of the first page, it's actually useful data, but the person who created this tool had no idea what he was doing and thought it was a kind of watermark because older dumps didn't have this.
C. For what?

source code really isn't necessary for something this simple:

just go to 0x1200, overwrite 0x48 bytes with FF
that's it.

Who was the one to make the call that these arent clean dumps and originals are, when like has been said they only making the dump more complete.. Its not like there are even 3ds scene rules. Does it just take 1 person to say it and it becomes gospel ???

because this data DOESNT occur in the header on the carts

a CLEAN dump is purely the copy of the Cart
nothing else
changing it in ANY way by adding Extra Data or modifying it makes it no longer CLEAN

But some say otherwise, The Gateway dump roms contain the unique ID of the card and the card ID.
These are not GW watermarks, but actual data coming from the card, who is to say that the original dumpers werent dumping the full data

but its that this Data is not part of the Data on the cart game image itself

also i noticed is that all or Kirin's and BigBlueBox's Dumps always included the Card ID on there NFO files
meaning they know it exists but its not part of the game image also, otherwise they would have included it in the image surely?

In short, protect the cart it's been dumped from by deleting the unique identifier strings from the dump. That way the owner doesn't have to worry about their cart being banned from online play (or worse, their 3DS), and we still get the game's dump. Everyone wins.

...or at least that's how I interpreted it. Feel free to correct me if my logic is flawed.

New Revision of the Rom Cleaner

http://tinyurl.com/Rom-Cleaner-0-2

allows you to backup the data in a separate file so you Rom can be clean, but you can also Import the data also
I don't understand this. Does "clean" mean, that the header is removed and that's it? Because I already found a 1.0-version of this tool and it looks quite different.

you can remove the header with the tool. No header = No online. You can also inject a different header with it.
Thanks. In the beginning I thought Gateway-roms would have additional data besides the header which needs to be cleaned up. That's why I asked.
