DS games are already region free. However in GW3DS mode you can't play retail 3DS games.

sorry! i meant 3DS retail games. it's sad that you can't do it though, i hope gateway releases a patch that would allow region free/spoof for retail cards once you get into GW3DS mode.

You can download and play the games you legally * own so there is no problem.

Legally owning them doesnt permit a download , it may permit a backup , theres a difference.

Depends upon where you are in the world and if your method of download also involves a bit of redistribution.

sure, of course games that have not been released yet are not dumped yet, but i mean i have a game that has not been dumped yet, so, if i did not have a 3ds capable of playing it, i would be upset
it will be nice when we can dump our own games, then it will make things more legal for countries which it is illegal to download roms, plus will give the gateway more justification of being a product if it is not just for piracy. the homebew should be interesting!

i wonder how long it will be until we can load dsi roms, region free would be nice too.

all 3ds games are region locked, and i'm pretty sure all or most dsi enhanced games are region locked too

all 3DS, DSi Exclusive & DSi Enhanced are region locked

the only reason we got around teh DSi Enhanced region lock was by playing them in DS Mode, so we loose the DSi features as well as the Region lock

There are a few people on here who have recieved gateway cards already so I'm sure at least one person can comment on it. I think Devin commented on playing mario and luigi tream team euro rom on a NA 3ds with it, testing both the region free and firmware spoofing on the same game as it "requires" 5.x+

It doesn't work with retail games yet.

It works with "backups", just not physical, normal retail cartridges. At least one part of it being that you can't run 3ds retail cartridges in the "gateway" mode although that's probably not the only restriction but who knows.

Ah, yup. Only works with roms as you can't play retail games while in GW3DS mode.

Well, that's what I meant by "retail games"...
