Man gateway is really pissing me off. First off many vendors and such were claiming the device was 5.x compatible. 4.5 was released in Dec of 2012 more than 6 months ago. When they first leaked they indicated that everyone on 5.x should stay put and not upgrade. Now I think we see why all the delays. They are funtioning on 4.5 and they were likely working on a 5.x fix/patch and then Nintendo comes out with 6.x so they ditch the 5.x work and start working on 6.x. Who would have though Nintendo is so damned slow to do updates on cartridge? I mean Animal crossing just came out and they are pushing 4.5 on it? Supposedly the new 'Dream Team' game pushes 5.1. So what that means is if Gateway puts out a 6.x update and Nintendo has closed the 6.x download window we will be screwed, until a cart comes out with a 6.x udpate......which given the cycle could be fall or end of the year even. This team obviously is small and sucks because they announced the thing 6 weeks ago and still can't get newer firmwares working. I mean why even sell a product that only supports 2 revisions old firmware. The minute they did the first demo they should have sad hey we are only working on 4.5 so anyone still on that don't update....this group has been sneaky the whole way first holding back details about this 'exploit' cart and never being forthcoming with the save backup/restore details. I mean why all the fucking cloak and dagger shit.....This product stinks to high hell.
Oh yeah, say they suck when no other 'team' has come close to even this amount of progress. Go ahead and do it yourself if you think you could possibly do it so easily.
... yeah, on their main page update, they said save backup/restores are handled from the big SD card (i.e. one that comes with the 3DS), so nice reading skills mang. I'm pretty sure you're just one of those people who can't afford the cartridge(s) and are pissed that you can't freeload off of other peoples' work via a free solution.
Yes now they have given a little bit of info on the save situation, but this thing has been announced since June 4th....so why the heck couldn't they tell us something sooner?
Also I am not saying it is so easy, and I in these forums have been generally supportive of this team, and I have pre-ordered the damned cartridge. What angers me is the lack of info over the last 6-7 weeks? Why all the secrecy? Why not just say hay this is a 4.5 only solution for now months ago so people wouldn't updated and could be their potential customers? Look I will keep the cart and hope for a 5.x or 6.x fix but I just think more disclosure wouldn't have hurt a damned thing and they got 'blocked' by Nintendo anyways so what good was all the secrecy?
Also I have 10 3DS cart games, 3 full download games, am an anbassador member (meaning I bought the 3DS at full price on launch day), have a variety of eShop stuff, have multple DSi games. I am not one of the peple who can not afford catridges or software. I just enjoy hacking and modding stuff and buy the stuff more for the sake of playing around and testing than out of need.
I have a right to my opinion which is that this group has been secretive, has not been forthcoming with critical details, and also the fact that they have yet to actually deliver anything other than promises and a few videos. So I am no newb (43 years young) and have been on every scene there has ever been since the Atari 2600 and 8bit computers. I live in a house so big that I have my own arcade and have kept every system I have owned since that 2600. I made so much money in technology that I retired at 39 and now get to spend most my time travelling, having fun with my wife, and playing video games. I am just a little frustrated because most of us were already on 5.x when the product was even announced and I gave away my damned orginal 3DS in April when I bough an XL so wish I just kept it as it was on an older firmware. I have the resources to find another unit and that is likely what I will do when the team actually delivers the product and if they don't address firmware past 4.5.
Yeah I agree with quicksilver88 they have achieved a lot in these past couple of months but they are being really slow to give out important information that probably could have been given out at an earlier date.
Well I emailed Gateway with questions/concerns about the current state of affairs and this was their reply.....
Currently it is not compatible with frimware above 4.5 but we are working on making it compatible as quickly as possible with 5.x and 6.x firmwares. Meanwhile, do NOT update your console to any newer firmware until we say it is ok to do so. We should have a solution for you soon.
So this reply does mirror what they state in their latest faq which is they have tested their 'exploit' cart up to 6.x and know it is working. So I will just stay on 5.x and recommend others do as well. When their update comes out it sounds like they will have 5.x and 6.x compatbility and those on 5.x can stay there until a game ships with 6.x and gives you a reason to upgrade. I in no way meant to diss this team...I just want to get the prodcut in hand and hopre to heaven they are being honest about 5.x/6.x compatiblity. Can't wait to see there new videos that show off what the exploit cart does and how the game save features work.....In the mean time I guess I will go play more Luigi.....lol

But yeah, like u said, I wouldn't expect it to work for firmwares with 5.x. So the number of people who can actually use it is rather limited.
I wonder if these 4.5 3DS consoles are going to be like the PS3 3.55 CFW and be worth 3x times the original amount. That would be crappy...
